  • Patent number: 5569455
Abstract: Method of forming a catalytic bonding layer by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) onto carrier structures including internal combustion engine exhaust system and catalytic converter components, in order to bond a catalyst layer thereto, thereby providing a structure wherein additionally the bonding layer can be energized to promote catalytic conversion-activating preheating of the catalyst. In an electromagnetic induction catalytic preheating system, a ceramic lattice or a metallic network can form the base structure of the catalytic converter, wherein at least the latter is encompassed by an electrical/thermal insulating layer; around either induction coiling is wrapped and secured by a thermally insulating material. Upon engine start, current is electromagnetically induced in the catalytic bonding layer or the metallic network through the induction coiling.

  • Patent number: 5208206
Abstract: In a method of manufacturing an exhaust gas purifying catalyst, a carrier of heat-resistant alloy steel containing aluminum is initially prepared as a metallic carrier. A first alumina slurry containing fine particles of hydrated alumina and water is then coated on the surface of the metallic carrier and is in turn dried and calcined so that a first alumina layer may be formed on the surface of the metallic carrier. Thereafter, a second alumina slurry containing gamma-alumina particles, hydrated alumina and water is coated on the surface of the first alumina layer and is in turn dried and calcined so that a second alumina layer may be formed on the surface of the first alumina layer.

  • Patent number: 5075275
Abstract: A catalyst is comprised of a catalyst carrier and a coat layer containing cerium particles, active alumina particles and a catalyst component of a noble metal; and barium barium oxide is immobilized on the cerium oxide particles. The catalyst can suppress the growth of crystals of cerium oxide due to the immobilization of the barium oxide thereon, thereby improving heat resistance of the catalyst.

  • Patent number: 5039647
Abstract: There is provided an improved catalyst for purifying exhaust gases comprising a carrier carrying alumina, zirconium oxide and a noble metal catalyst. The improvement resides in the fact that the carrier carries the alumina as a layer having dispersed therein the zirconium oxide particles, the zirconium oxide particles carrying said noble metal catalyst. The dispersibility of the noble metal catalytic component is thereby improved and the sintering prevention effect on the noble metal catalytic component by the zirconium oxide is effectively exhibited. Thus, the heat-proof property of the catalyst is improved and the cooperation between the noble metal catalytic component and alumina is effectively enhanced, improving longevity of the catalyst.

  • Patent number: 4564608
Abstract: A method of producing monolith catalysts for catalysts to be used in a measure to purify the exhaust gases of a vehicle, in which, in a process of producing alumina slurry liquid, the dispersibility of the alumina particles in the slurry liquid is improved by the use of water, aluminium-nitrate powder instead of acid, alkali to allow the slurry liquid to be uniformly adhered on the surface of the dipped carrier, thereby to prevent the alumina coat layer from coming off in the high temperature.
