  • Patent number: 6042037
Abstract: In a handle for a fishing reel, a support shaft is fixedly secured at one end to a distal end of a handle arm by compressive clamping in such a manner that the support shaft projects from the handle arm. The tubular stem of a handle piece is rotatably mounted on the outer periphery of the support shaft, and is retained by a retaining member against disengagement therefrom. A grip portion integral with the tubular stem has a cavity extending between opposite ends of the grip portion. A pair of caps closing the opposite open ends are detachably fixed to the grip portion by a resilient member. The handle is light weight, and thus can be operated with a small amount of force.

  • Patent number: 5996918
Abstract: A fishing reel braking device adapted to apply a braking force to the drive gear, the base end portion of an accommodating cylinder adapted to accommodate the braking member is secured to the base end portion of the drive gear in a non-rotating posture. Hence, the braking device, when compared with the conventional ones is reduced in the number of component, and simplified in structures Furthermore, the braking device of the invention is prevented from being bulky in the direction of axis of the handle shaft, and is improved in fishing operability. Further, seal members of elastic material are provided about the braking member to sealingly accommodate the braking member in an accommodating section.

  • Patent number: 5556047
Abstract: A motor output regulator for increasing and decreasing the output of a spool drive motor in multiple continuous stages is rotatably provided, in a motor-operated fishing reel equipped with a spool drive motor, on the same side of the reel body where a manual handle for manually driving the spool to rotate is installed. The direction in which the output of the motor is increased by the motor output regulator is set equal to the direction in which the fishline is wound up onto the spool by the manual handle. The motor-operated fishing reel is excellent in operability in that while both sides of the reel body is gripped, the output of the motor can be made variable to adjust its speed. It is also possible to simultaneously perform both winding-up operation by the manual handle and speed change operation by the motor output regulator with a single hand.

  • Patent number: 5503341
Abstract: In a fishline length measurement device for a fishing reel, a random access memory is provided for storing as a data map a relationship between spool rotation numbers and corresponding fishline outer circumferential surface diameters. Both are detected during initial casts or winding of the fishline so that a outer circumferential surface diameter corresponding to a spool rotation number detected by a spool rotation sensor is selected from the data map in subsequent casts or winding of the fishline. Fishline length is calculated based on the detected rotation number and the selected diameter. Thus, it is possible to reduce consumptive electric power of the battery without any deterioration to the fishline length measurement function. In another feature of the present invention temperature compensation is provided to correct for changes in ambient temperature surrounding the fishing reel.

  • Patent number: 4805849
Abstract: A spool designed to be mounted in the frame of a double-bearing type fishing reel. The spool has a flange at each end. Each flange has a peripheral shoulder wherein a peripheral groove is cut. The spool is designed for rotary movement. This rotary movement of the spool is designed to be stopped when one of the peripheral shoulders comes in contact with a brake board. Water-drops are collected in the peripheral groove thereby preventing their accumulation on the peripheral shoulder where they would contact the brake board and inhibit the braking action. A water draining hole is formed in a lower portion of the frame.

  • Patent number: 4798354
Abstract: A double bearing type fishing reel which comprises a frame body having opposed side frames and with a plurality of support extending between the side frames is provided. The frame body with the side frames and the supports are integrally constructed of a synthetic resin. A line-carrying spool extends between the side frames spacedly from the supports and is attached to axial rotation. There is mounted on the upper surface of at least a support on the line spinning side of the frame body a hard wear-resistant member which thus is disposed between the associated support and the line for protecting the engaged support from the development of scratches, grooves or other marring thereon by reason of the frictional heat which is normally produced by contact of the line with the support. The hard wear-resistant member may be of a multiplicity of configurations and may be mounted for either fixed disposition or for rotation.
