  • Publication number: 20100047587
Abstract: A method for joining two substances and device for joining two substances are suited for practical use and significantly reduce the difficulty of accurately forming the focal formation position of an ultrashort pulse laser in a case of joining substances with use of a nonlinear absorption phenomenon, as well as a joined body and a manufacturing method for the for the same. Provided is a method for joining two substances by causing a nonlinear absorption phenomenon to occur with use of an ultrashort pulse laser beam. Among the two substances, a first substance that is positioned on a side on which the ultrashort pulse laser beam is incident is composed of a transparent material, and the two substances are joined by generating, at a joining face of the two substances, a filament area that is generated by a self-focusing effect of the ultrashort pulse laser beam in the first substance.

  • Patent number: 7342223
Abstract: The mass spectrometer according to the present invention includes a light source for emitting pulse light including a plurality of wavelengths; an ionizer for ionizing molecules of a sample by irradiating the light from the light source to the sample; and a mass analyzer for separating ions ionized in the ionizer according to their mass to charge ratios. For the light source, one including a plurality of ultrashort pulse laser sources each emitting a wavelength different from others, and one emitting ultrashort pulse light including plural wavelengths ranging from the visible region to the infrared region generated by dispersing an ultrashort pulse light with continuous (white) spectrum can be used. Pulse lights having plural wavelengths ranging from near infrared to the ultraviolet region respectively share the role; i.e., one of them vaporizes the sample without fragmenting it, and another ionizes the vaporized sample with the single-photon process or two-photon (or multi-photon) process.

  • Patent number: 6969820
Abstract: A marking method is provided which permits an easy detecting of the presence of a mark without using a specific reading apparatus, and is capable of avoiding a damage as well as a strength deterioration of an object material. The marking method comprises: preparing a marking object; converging, into the marking object, a laser beam having a wave length range so chosen that the laser beam can transmit through a material forming the marking object, and then effecting a multiple photon absorption; and moving a converging position of the laser beam, in a manner such that an area, whose refractive index is changed due to the multiple photon absorption, can form a diffraction pattern capable of diffracting a visible light.
