  • Patent number: 7010745
Abstract: The image input part (3) in an authoring device (1) reads a plurality of pages of a paper publication and creates images of the pages. In the border eliminating part (9) of the authoring device (1), a common area extraction part (15) extracts the area common to all of the images of the pages. The layouts with respect to at least either text or drawings in this common area of the images resemble one another. The non common-area replacement part (19) replaces the color of the portion outside the common area of the images with the background color of the common area, so as to remove the border outside the common area of each of the images. An image output part (5) in the authoring device (1) outputs the data of the post-replacement images of all of the pages of the paper publication as the contents of an electronic publication.

  • Publication number: 20040024860
Abstract: Reproduction means of a general-purpose computer (1) reproduces a digital content only when a device ID included in the digital content corresponds to a device ID of a device by which it is intended to reproduce the digital content. When the device ID of the general-purpose computer (1) is altered, a recovery program for recovering an original device ID is downloaded from a recovery program generation server (2), thereby the device ID is recovered. With this arrangement, it is possible to provide a communication system which is capable of recovering a device ID when, for instance, the device ID is altered on account of the reinstall of a program such as an OS or content player.

  • Publication number: 20030118247
Abstract: In an image processing method for reducing an input image while preventing moire without deterioration of image quality, presence/absence of periodicity is detected for each pixel on the input image, and if there is periodicity, an image period is detected (S4). Sample points are sequentially extracted from the input image at prescribed sampling intervals (S5). A value is obtained by multiplying the image period by n (n is a natural number) that exceeds the sampling interval, to set a smoothing area. Pixels around a sample point is smoothed in the set smoothing area. The pixel value for a reduced image is obtained (S6). If there is an unprocessed sample point (NO at S8), the step goes back to S6, and the next sample point is subjected to a similar process. If the process is terminated for all the sample points (YES at S8), the reduced image is output.

  • Patent number: 6292593
Abstract: A one-dimensional image synthesizing unit 3 images an subject, and produces a plurality of image-to-be-combined signals expressing images-to-be-combined having overlapped regions. A central processing unit 5 first obtains matching of images of the subject for each of adjacent images-to-be-combined for all image-to-be-combined signals by center and large block matching processes, and detects the deviations of overlapped regions from the obtained matching. Next, in a small block matching process, on the basis of the deviations of the overlapped regions, a plurality of reference blocks and search regions are made to correspond to each other and are set in the respective overlapped regions, and the deviations of the images of the subject are detected in a unit of each search region in more detail than the deviations detected by the large block matching process.

  • Patent number: 6215914
Abstract: A picture processing apparatus which can reduce matching errors and shorten a processing time for matching. In the picture processing apparatus, a binarization circuit individually binarizes a pair of object picture signals to generate line picture signals. A feature point extract circuit extracts a plurality of feature point pixels for each reference area in the reference side line picture. A transforming circuit widens a line width of the search side line picture. A correlation computation circuit, for each reference area, finds a correlation between each pixel within a search area in the line picture whose line width has been widened and the feature point pixels. A composition processing section composites the pair of object picture signals based on the correlations. A picture processing apparatus which can adjust density and color tone of two pictures to be composited.

  • Patent number: 5940544
Abstract: An object of the invention is to correct a distortion due to inclination of a document and to correct a luminance.First, an edge detection section detects an edge of a document image from a picture obtained by imaging the document. Then, a skew detection section detects a skew of the document from the edge. A rotation correction section causes the picture to rotate on the basis of the skew detected by the skew detection section. Subsequently, the edge detection section again extracts a document image edge from the picture rotated by the rotation correction section. Further, a height calculation section calculates from the edge a height of the document. Simultaneously, a magnification calculation section calculates from the edge a magnification of the picture. Next, a distortion correction section corrects a distortion by magnification/reduction of the picture rotated by the rotation correction section on the basis of the document height and the magnification.

  • Patent number: 5774237
Abstract: An image reading apparatus is for reading a document such as a book from above with the target faces thereof placed upwardly. The apparatus allows for correction of distortions of the image, without relying on the background color of the target faces of the document. An image processing device detects the boundary between the document and a document-guiding device (the document edge) on the basis of the image read by the image reading device and corrects distortions of the image with reference to the detected boundary.
