  • Patent number: 8640447
Abstract: An exhaust emission control device includes a catalytic converter arranged in an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine. The catalytic converter includes an upstream catalytic converter and a downstream catalytic converter arranged on a downstream side of the upstream catalytic converter. The upstream catalytic converter includes a first support and a first catalyst supported on the first support. The first catalyst includes a first lower layer catalyst and a first upper layer catalyst. Pd in the first lower layer catalyst is supported only on the oxygen storage component contained in the first catalyst. The first upper layer catalyst is provided on the first lower layer catalyst, Pd in the first upper layer catalyst being supported on each of the oxygen storage component and Al2O3 contained in the first catalyst.

  • Patent number: 8601802
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifying device is provided with an exhaust manifold having a collecting section, and a catalytic converter provided downstream of the exhaust manifold. The catalytic converter has upstream and downstream catalysts. The upstream catalyst includes a carrier, a first layer located on the carrier containing Pd, a second layer located on the first layer containing Rh, and a third layer located on the second layer containing Pd. The downstream catalyst includes a carrier, a first layer located on the carrier containing Pd, and a second layer located on the first layer containing Pt and Rh. The collecting section connects to the catalytic converter after passing, in order from the upstream side, through a flow regulating path and a neck section which is provided in the flow regulating path. The flow regulating path has a predetermined length and a width which is gradually reduced to the downstream side.

  • Publication number: 20110225956
Abstract: Provided is an exhaust purification apparatus for an internal combustion engine capable of reducing the quantity of a catalytic noble metal used in a catalytic converter without reducing the purification performance. A catalytic converter unit (3) contains an OSC material in addition to a catalytic noble metal, and includes an upstream catalytic converter (31) and a downstream catalytic converter (32) provided on the downstream side of the upstream catalytic converter (31). The upstream catalytic converter 31 contains more OSC material than the downstream catalytic converter (32), and the downstream catalytic converter contains more catalytic noble metal than the upstream catalytic converter (31).
