  • Patent number: 6759640
Abstract: When a displacement of an armature of an electromagnetically driven valve fails to reach a predetermined threshold value even after an elapse of a predetermined time from switching opening/closing of the valve, it is determined that step-out has occurred or step-out is about to occur and then the valve opening/closing control is changed. The valve opening/closing control is changed, for example, by interrupting application of current to the valve for attracting the armature released from the other valve.

  • Publication number: 20030217714
Abstract: In method and apparatus for controlling starting of a solenoid-operated valve for an internal combustion engine, when a request for a start of the solenoid-operated valve is generated, a provisional target position to which an armature is likely to be moved is determined, and the armature is moved to the determined provisional target position. • Publication number: 20030038261
Abstract: A rush adjuster which adjusts a relative position between a valve body and an armature in an axial direction so that a state of zero-rush is formed is arranged between an armature shaft and a valve shaft. At a time of starting an electromagnetic drive valve, a first starting current is applied to either one of an upper coil and a lower coil for generating electromagnetic forces for attracting the armature closer, whichever a distance with respect to the armature is shorter.

  • Patent number: 6477993
Abstract: The invention relates to a control apparatus for controlling a solenoid valve that functions to displace one of an intake valve or an exhaust valve of an internal combustion engine. The object of the invention is to adjust, when a valve element connected to the solenoid valve is displaced between a valve-open position and a valve-closed position, the magnitude of an electromagnetic force displacing the valve element, to a controlled value based on a pressure acting on the valve element. The solenoid valve displaces the valve element (40) by a cooperation of resilient forces of an upper spring (104) and a lower spring (106) and electromagnetic forces of an upper coil (98) and a lower coil (100). In the control apparatus, a pressure acting on the valve element (40) is detected directly or indirectly.

  • Patent number: 6446588
Abstract: An internal combustion engine having an electromagnetic valve driving mechanism adjusts an amount of magnetizing current to be applied to the electromagnetic valve driving mechanism in accordance with a temperature or viscosity of a lubricant used in the electromagnetic valve driving mechanism. Accordingly, intake and exhaust valves can be driven with an electromagnetic force corresponding to a viscosity of the lubricant. Therefore, changes in opening-and-closing operation speeds of the intake and exhaust valves resulting from a temperature or viscosity of the lubricant that is supplied to a sliding portion of the electromagnetic valve driving mechanism can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6354563
Abstract: An electromagnetic drive valve always maintains an optimal waveform of a current supplied to electromagnets for driving an armature. The waveform of an instruction current to each coil is changed in accordance with changes of external disturbances affecting a valve body based on the pressure in the cylinders of an internal combustion engine, the sliding resistance on a bearing, and the like.

  • Patent number: 6354253
Abstract: A solenoid valve device includes an engine valve which can move in an axial direction thereof, an armature which moves with the engine valve, an electromagnet which attracts the engine valve so that the engine valve moves in the axial direction, and a zero-lash adjuster mechanism which is interposed between the engine valve and the armature. Thus, the solenoid valve can positively actuate an engine valve between a fully closed position and a fully opened position without formation of a clearance between the engine valve and the armature. A current supplied to the electromagnet may be set in accordance with a value which is related to a relative position of the armature and the electromagnet.
