  • Publication number: 20020025093
Abstract: A bearing device for a drive wheel is provided with improved strength of coupling a hub wheel and an outer joint member without significantly raising the manufacturing cost. The bearing device for a drive wheel includes the hub wheel, a constant velocity universal joint and bearings arranged in inner races, the hub wheel, the universal joint and the bearings being unitized, at least the inner race being formed in the outer joint member of the constant velocity universal joint. In the bearing device, the hub wheel and the outer joint member are meshed with each other by way of serrations and coupled to each other by caulking. Undulations of serrations at near a caulked section being filled with plastic deformed part caused by the caulking.

  • Patent number: 6280336
Abstract: A hub unit includes an axle hub, a brake rotor, an axle bearing, and a constant velocity universal joint and transmits power of an engine of an automobile to drive wheels via a drive shaft. The axle hub takes the role as a bearing inner ring of the axle bearing and an outer joint member of the constant velocity universal joint. The axle hub, brake rotor, axel bearing, and constant velocity universal joint are compactly assembled. The ratio r2 (=Douter/PCDserr) between the outer diameter Douter of the axle hub (outer joint member) and the pitch circle diameter (PCDserr) of the tooth profile (serrations or splines) of the fitting portion of the inner joint member is set in a range of 2.5≦r2<3.2.

  • Patent number: 6267682
Abstract: A constant velocity joint assembly for a vehicle, having a fixed-type constant velocity joint linked at one end of a shaft portion of a vehicle and a plunging type constant velocity joint linked to the other end of the shaft portion. The fixed type constant velocity joint includes an outer joint member having eight curved guide grooves axially formed in the spherical inner surface and an inner joint member having eight curved guide grooves axially formed in the spherical outer surface. Serrations (or splines) are formed on the inner surface for connection to a shaft portion. Eight torque transmitting balls are disposed in ball tracks defined between the guide grooves of the outer and inner joint members. A cage retains the torque transmitting balls.

  • Publication number: 20010004611
Abstract: A driving wheel bearing unit is disclosed which facilitates works including mounting and dismounting to/from a car body. The driving wheel bearing unit is set to satisfy Da≧Db, where Da is the diameter of its external member across a fitting surface thereof to be fitted to a mating member such as a knuckle, and Db is the maximum diameter of its constant velocity joint, so that a mounting bolt fixing the external member can be released to allow unitary extraction of the entire wheel bearing unit and the external member.

  • Patent number: 6146022
Abstract: A hub unit bearing for automotive wheel comprises an outer joint member of constant velocity universal joint, an axle hub and an axle bearing assembled into one unit, the axle hub and the outer joint member being separably joined in a socket-and-spigot joint fashion, face splines being formed in opposing end surfaces of the axle hub and the outer joint member, one of double rows of inner raceways of the axle bearing being formed in the outer joint member, and quench-hardened layers of the inner raceways and quench-hardened layers of the face splines being formed continuously. A heat-affected zone incident to the quench-hardened inner raceway of the outer joint member may also be formed continuously with a heat-affected zone incident to quench-hardened ball grooves of the outer joint member.

  • Patent number: 6135891
Abstract: A constant velocity universal joint is disclosed in which the end of a track groove 24 which opens to the open end surface 26 of the outer joint member 2 is formed with a cut portion 28a, 28b for the incorporation of a ball, thereby making the incorporation of balls possible without shifting the position of the open end surface 26. Therefore, the strength of the inlet portion of the outer joint member 2 is increased. Furthermore, since the ball incorporating angle .alpha. of the cage 5 can be decreased, it is possible to increase the width of the pocket column portion 58 of the cage 5 and increase the strength of the cage 5.
