Patent number: 7890361Abstract: In a rules based management system for controlling multiple levels of related catalogs, a method for immediate escalation of, and response to, a request from a customer to change a rule associated with the customer. The rules associated with the customer are used to derive the customer's catalog and each rule is associated with the person imposing the rule, called the owner of the rule. The method prevents, or at least minimizes, customer frustration with administrators of the catalogs by providing automated escalation of the customer's rule change request to the owner of the rule. The owner of the rule may physically reside in the same geographic location as the customer or in an entirely different country than the customer. Starting with the catalog used by the customer, catalogs are search in order of ancestry until the owner of the rule is found.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2003Date of Patent: February 15, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: H. Keith Porter, David Grining, Scott W. Jensen, Michael Croasdaile

Publication number: 20090132476Abstract: A method, article of manufacture, and apparatus for managing a lifecycle of an auditory communication is disclosed. In an embodiment, this comprises receiving an auditory communication with associated data representing identified keywords in the communication and call transport information. A data for a disposition of the communication is determined from a portion of the identified keywords, a portion of the call transport information, or a portion of the policies invoked. The communication is associated with the date(s).Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2009Publication date: May 21, 2009Applicant: EMC CORPORATIONInventors: Christopher Hercules CLAUDATOS, William Dale ANDRUSS, Bruce David LEETCH, Jeffrey Keith PORTER

Patent number: 7457396Abstract: A method, article of manufacture, and apparatus for automated processing of an auditory communication is disclosed. In an embodiment, this comprises receiving the auditory communication with call transport information, triggering a first policy based on the data, and selecting, based on the first policy, at least a first lexicon comprising a plurality of keywords. A first portion of the call is compared to the first lexicon to identify keywords matched by the first portion of the call, and a second policy is invoked based on the matched keywords. The action(s) specified by the second policy is taken. Actions may include termination of the call, joining a third party, archiving the call, changing a characteristic of the call, or further processing using another lexicon.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2004Date of Patent: November 25, 2008Assignee: EMC CorporationInventors: Christopher Hercules Claudatos, William Dale Andruss, Bruce David Leetch, Jeffrey Keith Porter

Publication number: 20060041406Abstract: Described are a method, computer program product, and system for risk management using readily available, gridded hazard data to estimate and obtain a risk analysis parameter (e.g., expected repair cost) for use in risk management, such as in seismic risk management. The method includes calculating economic risk for buildings in terms of an expected annualized loss (EAL). EAL is the product of a scenario loss estimate called probable frequent loss (PFL) and an economic hazard coefficient (H). H can be created using readily available gridded hazard data produced by the U.S. Geological Survey. The method also includes a technique for calculating shaking intensity, sEBE, which is needed for determining PFL. Incorporated into a system, the system can be utilized by engineering consultants (or others interested in risk management) via the Internet, or on any other computer readable medium.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2005Publication date: February 23, 2006Inventor: Keith Porter

Publication number: 20040220863Abstract: In a rules based management system for deriving multiple catalogs from one or more ancestor catalogs, a method for allowing a customer to dynamically set up and save a configurable subset of the customer's catalog. The method does not require intervention by administrators of the one or more ancestor catalogs, saving the customer time and effort. The subset is identified as an offering released by the customer, and can be saved as an item in the customer's catalog, or saved as a sub-catalog. Products available in the customer's catalog and the subset include goods, services and capabilities. Products sold from the subset are accounted for in the same manner as products sold from the customer's regular catalog. The subset of the customer's catalog is set up and saved in real-time or near real-time, making the subset immediately available for access and ordering.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 29, 2003Publication date: November 4, 2004Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Howard Keith Porter, Charlie Bernard Isler, Scott Warren Jensen, David Grining
