  • Patent number: 5740572
Abstract: An operating table has two leg sections each of which has a rotatable shaft extending along its length. Each shaft carries a gear that engages another gear fixed with the table such that raising or lowering the leg section causes the shaft to rotate. A helical spring extends helically around each shaft and is arranged to coil up when the leg section is lowered, so that the weight of the section is counterbalanced.

  • Patent number: 5586349
Abstract: A patient transfer trolley has a pivoted top mounted at the upper end of an hydraulic support column of adjustable height. Two hydraulic cylinders connected to one end of the table top are connected to respective hydraulic pumps mounted at opposite ends of the trolley base so that angle of the top can be altered and either end can be put into a Trendelenburg position. A third pump is connected to both the support column and the cylinders for adjusting the angle of the top. An overpressure valve diverts pressure from the third pump initially to the cylinders for adjusting the angle so that the top is returned to a horizontal position. The valve then opens to allow pressure to flow to the support column and raise the trolley top.

  • Patent number: 5535465
Abstract: A patient trolley has a top that can be raised and lowered hydraulically. A guide wheel mounted on a resilient suspension is coupled to the trolley top so that, when the top is raised, the guide wheel is also raised and, when the top is lowered, the guide wheel is lowered into contact with the floor.

  • Patent number: 5477570
Abstract: A transfer trolley for transferring a patient onto an operating table has a removable patient support platform divided across its length into two parts coupled by a hinge. A rod and cylinder mounted at their ends to respective parts of the platform are lockable to lock the two parts of the platform and prevent bending at the hinge while on the trolley. The trolley has two arms for supporting the platform, which either extend laterally under the platform on opposite sides of the hinge or longitudinally and traversing the region of the hinge. A control unit on the trolley has infra-red emitters that emit signals to sensors on the table, to control operation of the table, only when the trolley is correctly located for transfer.

  • Patent number: 5443462
Abstract: The handset of electrosurgery or welding apparatus has two spaced contacts which make connection with the shaft of an electrode that is insertable into the handset. A low power alternating signal generator is connected to the forward contact. When the electrode is fully inserted into the handset and contacts the rear contact, the alternating signal is supplied to a detector. The detector is connected to a power generator and rams it on when the alternating signal is detected so that electrosurgery power is supplied to the forward contact.

  • Patent number: 5390382
Abstract: An operating table used with electrosurgery equipment has a high impedance static discharge resistor connected between the table and ground. A monitor is connected across the resistor and is responsive to a change in resistance between the table and ground which is indicative of bypassing or failure of the resistor and which is independent of operation of the electrosurgery equipment. The monitor provides an output to an alarm and also disables the electrosurgery equipment in response to such a change in resistance.

  • Patent number: 5220698
Abstract: A surgical operating table has a cover resiliently supported on a base assembly and microswitches that detect displacement of the cover to prevent lowering of the patient support platform. The base assembly has a castor plate and a base plate which is lowered to brake movement of the table over the floor. A pneumatic tube around the base plate senses the presence of an object under the plate and causes the plate to be raised. A tilt switch in a leaf of the platform prevents angular displacement of the platform when its angle exceeds a safe limit.
