  • Patent number: 4318312
Abstract: A gear shift control system for an automatic transmission comprises an air flow sensor for sensing the quantity of air taken into an internal combustion engine and supplying a corresponding electrical signal to a differentiator which provides a derivative of the sensed intake air quantity. A vehicle speed sensor senses the speed of rotation of the engine crankshaft to generate a corresponding signal. A gear shift decision circuit is receptive of signals from the air flow sensor and vehicle speed sensor to define a gear shift control line on a two-dimensional coordinate system as a function of the received input signals on respective coordinate axes. The derivative of the sensed air quantity is used to shift the gear shift control line to a higher speed side of the coordinate system to permit the transmission to effect downshift operation.

  • Patent number: 4195720
Abstract: A motor operatively connected to a pump which provides the transmission hydraulic control system with pressurized fluid is activatable automatically in response to insufficient pressure being stored in an accumulator when the ignition switch is closed and by a button switch operated by a button disposed on the gear shift lever when the ignition switch is open and insufficient pressure prevails in said accumulator whereby it is possible to shift gears even when the engine is stopped.

  • Patent number: 4194608
Abstract: A countershaft-type automatic power transmission in which a countershaft gear assembly is operated by a hydraulic control system controlled by electric control means responsive to various operational variables of a vehicle and in which a clutch assembly is operated between the coupled and uncoupled conditions by clutch control valve means which is also controlled by the electric control means, the power transmission further featuring throttle valve control means adapted to move the carburetor throttle valve to a position to produce an idling condition in the engine independently of the accelerator pedal when the clutch assembly is in the uncoupled condition.

  • Patent number: 4193264
Abstract: A vacuum motor operatively connected to a slave cylinder operates same via pressure differential variations across a reciprocatable vacuum motor piston to pump working fluid from a reservoir to an accumulator through two one way valves. The pressure differential variation can be derived from gear changing of the vehicle, induced through a three way electromagnetic valve controlled by a circuit characterized by either an unstable multivibrator, a dual stable multivibrator, a thyristor or a self maintaining relay, or induced through a purely mechanically operated valve characterized by lost motion and snap action position maintain devices. A pressure relief valve may be provided which dumps excessive pressurized fluid in the accumulator and returns same to the reservoir.

  • Patent number: 4168638
Abstract: A fluid pressure supply arrangement for the hydraulic control system of an automated countershaft power transmission for an automotive vehicle, wherein a fluid pressure is generated by vacuum supplied through a vacuum cut-off valve and is directed to the hydraulic control system through a pressure cut-off valve, each of the vacuum and pressure cut-off valves being closed when the engine is at rest and simultaneously the gearshift control lever for the power transmission is held free from a manipulative force.

  • Patent number: 4141240
Abstract: A pressure bumper or buffer is connected to a passageway between a pump and an oscillating type of flow rate meter for eliminating or alleviating a pulsation of the pressure of a pressurized fluid generated in the passageway by the pump to prevent the flow rate meter from failing to sense the real value of the flow rate of fluid fed to fluid consuming means.

  • Patent number: 4136576
Abstract: A countershaft type power transmission comprises a select shaft operatively connected with a select motor and a shift shaft operatively connected with a shift motor. The select motor and shift motor actuate the select shaft and shift shaft in response to various vehicle operating conditions, including the position of a control lever so as to engage a desired gear within the transmission. Means is provided for temporarily connecting the operative connecton between the shift motor and the shift shaft when the control lever is moved toward and into the reverse position, so that the shift shaft can be manually rotated via a mechanical connection between the control lever and the shift shaft to engage reverse gear.

  • Patent number: 4078429
Abstract: A flow-rate measuring device comprises a cavity and an inlet port for receiving and introducing a flow of fluid to the cavity. A wobble plate is pivotally disposed in the cavity to equally divide it into first and second cavity sections when in equilibrium position. An arcuate baffle plate is disposed in the cavity. First and second discharge channels are formed between the edges of the baffle plate and the inner wall of the cavity. An outlet port is connected to the discharge channels. The rearward end of the wobble plate is in proximity to the arcuate surface of the baffle plate and the pivot point of the wobble plate lies at the center of curvature of the baffle plate. The cavity has an increasing transverse dimension toward the first and second discharge channels to form a converging space toward each discharge channel when the wobble plate takes an extremely inclined position.

  • Patent number: 4023443
Abstract: An electronic means senses the difference in rotational speed between a main shaft gear to be engaged and the main shaft, and actuates a friction disc assembly to connect the low gear to the main shaft to accelerate the countershaft and thus the gear to be engaged if the gear speed is lower than the main shaft speed, and to connect the first gear to the transmission casing to decelerate the countershaft and thus the gear if the gear speed is higher than the main shaft speed, shifting from neutral into the desired gear ratio is prevented until the gear and main shaft speeds are synchronized.
