The compositions provide a consumer perceived improvement in antiperspirant efficacy and product wash-off when the compositions are formulated with petrolatum within the above-described concentration ranges.

Also disclosed are methods of controlling perspiration wetness and/or odor through the topical application to the underarm, especially shaven underarms, of an underarm active and a solid pantothenate salt. The anhydrous compositions are mild to the skin and can help sooth or heal skin irritated or damaged underarm skin, especially when such irritation and damage is the result of occasional or routine shaving of the underarmn.

The anhydrous compositions have lower visible residue on the applied areas of the skin even though they also contain relatively high residue solids in the form of water-soluble skin active solids other than and in addition to the antiperspirant and deodorant active. The compositions also provide for a dry, silky feeling during or after application.
