  • Patent number: 9648558
Abstract: A network for facilitating wireless radio communication. The network includes a first access area, wherein the access area includes one or more transmission/receive points. At least one transmission/receive point includes a base station that supports wireless communication between a network and user equipment (UE), such as, a mobile device. The network includes a dedicated connection signature (DCS) that is assigned to a UE. The DCS provides for and is used by the UE to maintain active, unified access to the wireless network. More particularly, the DCS provides for active, contention free, and fast access for the UE to the network through transmission/receive points within the first access area, which is of significance to present and future UE centric virtual radio access networks having high densities of mobile and non-mobile users and with high populations of different types of traffic patterns and applications.

  • Publication number: 20150195788
Abstract: A method for operating a user equipment (UE) includes determining a first operating state in accordance with a first message traffic generated by a non-session based application executing in the UE, setting a state machine in the UE to the first operating state, and transmitting a first message in accordance with the state machine.

  • Publication number: 20140328183
Abstract: Diverse traffic types can be efficiently communicated in a simultaneous manner by dynamically selecting between contention-based and scheduling-based media access control (MAC) communication schemes. Such a mechanism may be particularly beneficial in networks having a contention-based access resources and scheduling based access resources. Contention-based resources and scheduling based resources may occur over a common period, and may be orthogonal in the frequency domain and/or in the code domain. The dynamic selection may be based on a traffic characteristic or a network characteristic, and may be performed on a packet-by-packet basis. The selection criteria may be updated dynamically to adapt to changing network conditions, and may be communicated to the various transmitters via control channels or higher layer signaling.

  • Patent number: 8379576
Abstract: The invention provides new call admission control methods for application in wireless networks such as wireless mesh networks. A separate set of call admission control constraints is applied to access links used to access the network and transit links between network nodes of the network. Both sets of constraints must be satisfied for a call to be accepted.

  • Patent number: 7623448
Abstract: The invention provides various schemes for negotiating communications between wireless mesh network nodes operating in accordance with the IEEE 802.11e standard. However, more generally, the invention can be operated in accordance with other communication standards. According to a broad embodiment of the invention, a method is provided in which meeting durations are divided into at least two portions, an uplink transmission portion and a downlink transmission portion. In order to protect the negotiation packets from collisions, the negotiation process is combined with the uplink and downlink data transmissions. In some aspects of the invention, the negotiation process is protected from collisions by using the transmission opportunity (TXOP) protocol that is available in the IEEE 802.11e standard. The inventive methods can be used with a contention based protocol or a contention free based protocol.

  • Publication number: 20060073791
Abstract: To schedule uplink transmission time slots for a collection of mobile. communication devices, a set of base station target interference patterns is associated with base stations. A time slot target interference pattern is assigned for each time slot and it repeats after several time slots. The time slot target interference pattern in a given time slot specifies the interference allowed by each time slot to a given base station by any single mobile. A priority index may be determined for each time slot for each mobile associated with the particular base station. The priority index may be based, in part, on a determined correlation between the time-slot target interference patterns and a potential interference profile of a mobile to which a time slot is to be allocated. A mobile's throughput requirement, the throughput already received over a specified past duration, the system fairness requirement, as well as the amount of data available for transmission are also used for evaluating the priority index.
