  • Publication number: 20070202594
Abstract: A carrier for cell culture which enables cells to efficiently grow thereon is provided. A carrier comprises a particulate base body mainly formed of a resin material and a coating layer. The coating layer is formed from particles of a calcium phosphate-based compound, and the particles are partially embedded in the base body at the vicinity of the surface thereof whereby the coating layer coats the surface of the base body with a calcium phosphate-based compound. Such a carrier enables cells to adhere to and grow on the surface thereof. Therefore, the carrier can be used for cell culture, especially high-density three-dimensional cell culture. The coating layer can be formed, for example, by colliding porous particles of a calcium phosphate-based compound against the surface of the base body.

  • Publication number: 20060270037
Abstract: A collagen-coated carrier that has excellent cell adhesion properties and that allows excellent cell growth thereon is provided. Further, a method for manufacturing such a collagen-coated carrier efficiently and reliably is also provided. The collagen-coated carrier includes a base material (carrier) composed of a calcium phosphate-based compound and a coating layer provided so as to cover the surface of the base material. The coating layer is composed of collagen and a protein having a high affinity for the collagen. Such a coating layer covering the surface of the base material is formed by allowing the base material to firmly adsorb the collagen via the protein. The protein preferably has a collagen receptor. More preferably, the protein contains at least one of fibronectin and integrin as a main ingredient.

  • Publication number: 20060024823
Abstract: Cell culture carriers that allow cells to efficiently adhere thereto and sufficiently grow thereon and from which the grown cells can be easily removed or detached, a method for manufacturing cell culture carriers that enables to easily and reliably manufacture such cell culture carriers and a method for culturing cells using such cell culture carriers are disclosed. The cell culture carrier includes a base material having a granular shape and a coating layer that is provided so as to cover the surface of the base material, the coating layer is mainly made of calcium phosphate-based apatite in which a part of calcium is deficient. Such cell culture carriers are utilized in cell culture in which cells adhere to and grow on the surface of cell culture carriers, particularly in three-dimensional high-density culture (suspension culture). The Ca deficiency rate in the calcium phosphate-based apatite in which a part of calcium is deficient is preferably in the range of 1 to 30 mol %.

  • Publication number: 20040248291
Abstract: A cell culturing method comprises the steps of preparing a cell culture solution containing at least cells to be cultured and granular cell culture carriers; and applying a magnetic field to the cell culture solution so as to agitate the cell culture solution by the effect of the magnetic field, whereby the cells adhere to and grow on the surfaces of the cell culture carriers. Each of the carriers comprises a magnetic particle having a coating layer which is provided to cover at least a part of the surface of the magnetic particle so that the cells are allowed to adhere thereto, wherein the cell culture carriers are moved in the culture solution by the application of the magnetic field, thereby agitating the culture solution. Alternatively, the culture solution further contains magnetic particles, and the magnetic particles are moved in the culture solution by the application of the magnetic field, thereby agitating the culture solution.
