  • Patent number: 5469818
Abstract: The variable valve timing control device according to the present invention controls the valve timing of the intake valves of the engine based on the optimum valve timing at the full load operation of the engine. Namely, the variable valve timing control device of the present invention determines the valve timing in accordance with the combination of the present engine load and the present engine speed in such a manner that the deviation of the valve timing from the optimum valve timing when the engine is operated in full load at the present speed does not exceed a predetermined maximum allowable value. Since the valve timing of the engine is always set within a range determined by the maximum allowable deviation from the optimum valve timing for the full load operation, when the engine is accelerated to the full load condition the amount of the change, i.e., the amount of the operation of the variable valve timing control device is kept always within the range determined by the maximum allowable deviation.

  • Patent number: 5394848
Abstract: A turbine, which is an essential portion of an air motor, is disposed midway along an air-intake passage communicating to combustion chambers of an engine. A generator is operably connected to an output shaft of the turbine. The generator has a function to control the rotational motion of the turbine in proportion to the magnitude of the generated electric energy, in addition to the original function of generating the electric energy. The generator is electrically connected to an air-intake control device. In other words, the air-intake control device includes a transistor, and potentiometer which includes a resistor and a sliding element. A positive electrode of generator is connected to an emitter of the transistor. Further, a base of the transistor is connected to an output terminal of the potentiometer, and a collector thereof to a battery. When the operation magnitude of an acceleration pedal is small, the current flowing through the base decreases.

  • Patent number: 3942495
Abstract: An arrangement is disclosed for heating the suction gases of an internal combustion engine by utilizing the exhaust gases from the engine in order to promote the vaporization of the fuel contained within the suction gases while the engine is still in a cool state. In the arrangement, the high temperature exhaust gases from the engine are routed, by the control of a control valve rotatable between two positions in the exhaust manifold, around fins formed on the exterior wall of the bottom floor of the intake manifold for receiving the heat of the exhaust gases, and a covering is provided for enclosing the fins in a closed chamber. The covering, made of a heat resistant metal plate, is provided with inlet and outlet ports so as to introduce the exhaust gases into the chamber and drain the exhaust gases from the chamber.
