  • Publication number: 20100097533
Abstract: In a discharge tube, a conductive ferrule is provided on an end portion of a glass tube. The ferrule includes a body that is to be mounted to the outer circumference of the glass tube and has a contact portion to be electrically conductively fixed to a relay connector (or a bearing device). Further included is a conductive portion that extends from the body so as to have elastic contact with an outer lead. The outer lead will not be under load due to the weight of the discharge tube, but the conductive portion solely has elastic contact therewith. Thus, stress concentration on the outer lead can be prevented.

  • Publication number: 20100097786
Abstract: A ferrule includes a body having a cylindrical shape. Elastic gripping portions are arranged on the body so as to bulge radially inwardly. The elastic gripping portions can have elastic contact with the outer circumferential surface of a glass tube. The body of the ferrule is mounted to the glass tube via the elastic gripping portions capable of elastic and radial deformation. Thereby, the variations in outer diameter of the glass tube can be absorbed, and therefore the dimensional control with high precision is not required for glass tubes at the time of manufacturing. This leads to cost reduction.

  • Publication number: 20100097785
Abstract: Discharge tubes, each of which includes a glass tube and a ferrule that has a substantially cylindrical shape and is fitted to each end portion of the glass tube, are supported by a plurality of pairs of relay connectors (or supporting members) provided on the front side of a chassis having substantially a plate-shaped configuration. When a discharge tube is supported by relay connectors, stoppers provided on the relay connectors lock the ferrules so that axial movement of the discharge tube relative to the relay connectors is restricted.

  • Publication number: 20100091481
Abstract: Relay connectors are arranged to supply power from power boards arranged on the back side of a chassis having a substantially plate-shaped configuration to discharge tubes arranged on the front side of the chassis. Each relay connector includes a holder having an insulation property and to be mounted to the chassis, and further includes a relay terminal mounted to the holder and capable of electrical connection to the discharge tube and the power board. The relay terminal is immune to direct contact with the chassis. This enables the use of a metallic chassis.

  • Publication number: 20100084977
Abstract: Disclosed is a cold cathode lamp composed of discharge tube having a glass tube and an internal electrode, and a ballast capacitor integrally mounted to the discharge tube. The ballast capacitor is composed of a first electrode formed on the outer surface of the discharge tube, a dielectric layer covering the first electrode, and a second electrode formed on the dielectric layer. The internal electrode and the first electrode are electrically connected with each other. At least one of the internal electrode and the first electrode has a portion exposed to the outside. The capacitance of the ballast capacitor can be measured by connecting the exposed portion and the second electrode to a measuring device. Consequently, variations in capacitance of the ballast capacitor, which cause variations in luminance of the cold cathode lamp, can be easily examined.

  • Publication number: 20100039572
Abstract: In a power board, relay terminals penetrate a circuit board through fitting holes, and are connected to output terminals. The fitting holes are thus formed as through holes on the circuit board, and thereby on-board connectors provided for connection to the relay terminals on a chassis can be arranged on the back surface of the circuit board on the opposite side of the chassis. Electronic components free from restriction of the positional relationship with the chassis can be mounted on the back surface of the circuit board, as are the on-board connectors.

  • Publication number: 20090296375
Abstract: A notch is formed in a side of an optical sheet. As seen in plan view, the notch is shaped such that the maximum width of the notch as measured in the direction parallel to the line connecting both ends of a mouth portion of the notch is greater than the width of the mouth portion along the side of the optical sheet. Here, it is preferable that the notch be polygonal or have a curved shape as seen in plan view.

  • Publication number: 20090279282
Abstract: A light source holding structure eliminates non-uniformity of temperature distribution of a tube body of a light source in order to make uniform the amount of light emitted or prevent portions at which the amount of light emitted is locally lowered. The light source holding structure has a linear light source and a first light source holding member substantially in the shape of a bar. An engaging groove arranged to engage with a portion of a tube body of the light source is provided on the front side of the first light source holding member. The portion of the tube body is engaged in the engaging groove and substantially the entire length of the tube body is brought into surface contact with the inner surface of the engaging groove.

  • Publication number: 20090280698
Abstract: An on-board connector 18 includes an output terminal 70 that is surrounded by a housing 60 made of synthetic resin. The output terminal 70 is arranged in an area of the housing 60 farther from the edge portion 17E of a circuit board 17 so that sectional arrangement is provided. The output terminal 70 is thus surrounded by the synthetic-resin housing 60, and thereby a leak at the output terminal 70 can be suppressed. Further, the output terminal 70 is arranged in the limited area of the housing 60 farther from the edge portion 17E of the circuit board 17, resulting in a long distance maintained between the output terminal 70 and the edge portion 17E of the circuit board 17, which can effectively prevent the leak.

  • Publication number: 20090273743
Abstract: In one embodiment of the present invention, a liquid crystal display of the present invention contains an LCD (1) and an LCD (2). Adjacent pairs of polarizers form crossed Nicols. When the LCD (1) produces a display from a first display signal, the LCD (2) produces a display from a second display signal obtained from the first display signal. The gate driver for the LCD (1) and the gate driver for the LCD (2) producing a display from the second display signal are disposed symmetric. Accordingly, flickering is reduced which otherwise would be clearly visible when the two liquid crystal panels are stacked. A liquid crystal display with high display quality is thus realized.

  • Publication number: 20090201666
Abstract: In a backlight module, when relay connectors exposed to a back side of a chassis are engaged with the connector portions of a lighting jig, the power from the power supply source of the lighting jig is supplied to discharge tubes via the connector portions and the relay connectors. Thereby, the discharge tubes can be lighted, even if a power board is not connected to the relay connectors. At the time, the lighting jig is arranged to face the back surface of the chassis, and therefore optical sheets can be mounted to the chassis from the front side.
