  • Patent number: 5196621
Abstract: A process for the cyclodimerization of 1,3-butadienes to 4-vinylcyclohexenes comprising contacting a butadiene in the presence of a promoting amount of a hydroxylic solvent with a catalyst containing copper(I) ions supported on a carrier. A second process for the cyclodimerization of 1,3-butadienes to 4-vinylcyclohexenes comprising contacting a butadiene with a catalytic amount of a copper(I)-impregnated aluminosilicate zeolite characterized by a bulk SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 molar ratio in the range from about 5 to about 50 and a framework SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 molar ratio of at least about 15. A catalyst composition comprising a copper(I)-impregnated zeolite of specified bulk and framework silica to alumina molar ratios and specified water content. The catalyst exhibits high activity and long lifetime in the aforementioned dimerization processes and is easily regenerated.

  • Patent number: 5045610
Abstract: This invention relates to copolyestercarbonate polymers which are prepared with diaryl dicarboxylic acid compounds, particularly biphenyldicarboxylic acid compounds. Such copolyestercarbonate polymers show good physical properties including high glass transition temperatures and low ultraviolet radiation sensitivity. The thermoplastic copolymestercarbonates can be used to prepare films or molded articles or blended with other thermoplastic resins to give thermoplastic polymer blends for molding purposes.

  • Patent number: 4996353
Abstract: A process for the preparation of polyphenyl dicarboxylic acids is disclosed. The process comprises contacting para,para'-diisoalkyl or dialkyl-polyphenyl or an oxidation intermediate thereof with oxygen under reaction conditions sufficient to form para,para'-polyphenyldicarboxylic acid. The process is optionally carried out in the presence of cobalt, manganese, and bromine compounds.

  • Patent number: 4666706
Abstract: A chemical complex of a biocidal agent such as ortho-phenylphenol and chlorpyrifos and a non-ionic polymer of 2-ethyl oxazoline (PEOx). The complex is compatible with and contained in a plastic film such as polyethylene, polypropylene and poly(vinyl chloride) and the product is characterized by a reduced rate of release of the biocide without adversely affecting either the properties of the biocide or the film itself. The biocide-impregnated plastic finds utility in bags and in packing used to inhibit fungicidal growth and to prevent attack by insects and bacteria during growing, drying, packing, shipping, storage and marketing of fruits and vegetables.

  • Patent number: 4287323
Abstract: Addition polymerizable polyethers having pendant ethylenically unsaturated urethane groups are usefully employed as flooring materials and in other applications utilizing radiation curable or chemically curable materials. Such urethane polyethers are advantageously prepared by reacting a polyether polyol such as a hydroxy terminated polypropylene glycol with an isocyanatoalkyl ester of an ethylenically unsaturated acid such as 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate.

  • Patent number: 4278809
Abstract: 2-Isocyanatoalkyl esters of organic carboxylic acids are prepared by reacting (a) an aqueous solution of a 2-oxazoline with (b) an organic solution of phosgene dissolved in a water-immiscible organic solvent in the presence of (c) a hydrochloric acid acceptor. As an example, 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate was prepared by concurrently blending an aqueous stream of 2-isopropenyl-2-oxazoline, a methylene chloride stream of phosgene and an aqueous stream of sodium hydroxide at a temperature of from about 0.degree. C. to about 10.degree. C. The reaction rate is very high and the reaction is essentially complete upon blending the reactants.

  • Patent number: 4062833
Abstract: The biuret polyisocyanates correspond to the formula ##STR1## wherein R is --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --O--CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- and X is hydrogen or --C(O)--NX--R--NCO, and they have not more than six isocyanato groups per molecule. These compounds are prepared by reacting bis(2-isocyanatoethyl)ether with water in a mole ratio of at least 3 moles of diisocyanate per mole of water.
