  • Publication number: 20240161601
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for detecting false alarms are disclosed. An indication may be received that a sensor device has changed state. Data indicative of movement of the sensor device may also be received. Based on the received data indicative of movement of the sensor device, it may be determined whether the movement of the sensor device is abnormal. Based on the changed state of the sensor device and based on determining that the movement of the sensor device is abnormal, an indication of a false alarm may be caused to be output.

  • Patent number: 9017522
Abstract: A process to separate a multi-component hydrocarbon stream which includes ethylene and other components with at least some of the components being present in a number of phases, is provided. The process includes in a first flash stage, flashing the multi-component hydrocarbon stream, from an elevated pressure and temperature to a pressure in the range of 10-18 bar(a), producing a first ethylene-containing vapor stream at a pressure in the range of 10-18 bar(a) and a multi-phase stream which includes some ethylene. In a second flash stage, the multi-phase stream is flashed to a pressure of less than 6 bar(a), producing a second vapor stream at a pressure of less than 6 bar(a) and a bottoms stream. The first ethylene-containing vapor stream is removed from the first flash stage, the second vapor stream is removed from the second flash stage and the bottoms stream is removed from the second flash stage.

  • Patent number: 7837175
Abstract: The invention provides an actuator for moving a threaded valve stem along a longitudinal axis to selectively open or close a valve. The actuator comprises a carrier rotatably mounted within a housing. A portion of the carrier has a bore threaded to receive the threaded valve stem. The actuator further comprises a gear arrangement configured for transmitting a rotational force to the carrier. A cylindrical operator rotatably mounted to the housing has a plurality of splines on its circumference and is configured for receiving a rotational input force from a drive mechanism. An annular collar slidably disposed around the operator rotates with the operator but can slide longitudinally along the operator between a first position in which it engages the gear arrangement and a second position in which it engages the carrier.

  • Patent number: 6629838
Abstract: The invention provides a process and installation for the treatment of a solid. The process includes passing the solid along a kiln having a hollow interior, while supporting the solid on supports moved successively along the kiln and heating the solid, by radiant heat, to a temperature at which it undergoes an endothermic chemical reaction. The installation includes a kiln having a hollow interior with an inlet end and an outlet end, a roof, a floor and a pair of opposed side walls, and a path for supports loaded with the solid to pass successively along in the interior, from the inlet end to the outlet end, the path extending along the floor. The installation includes heating surfaces for radiating heat towards the solid on supports passing along the path, and a plurality of supports, movable in succession along the path.

  • Patent number: 6423291
Abstract: The invention provides a process for the production of titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) by the chlorination of titanium values in a titanium-containing starting material. The process includes exposing the starting material to a chlorinating agent and contacting the starting material with an inert liquid while the starting material is exposed to the chlorinating agent. The inert liquid is at a temperature of 200-350° C. and is at a pressure of 5-100 atmospheres (1 atmosphere=101.325 kN/m2). This causes the starting material to react with the chlorinating agent to form TiCl4. The invention also extends to TiCl4 whenever made in accordance with the method.

  • Patent number: 5937466
Abstract: A lugged ice axe head including a head portion which may have accessories, such as an ice pick, attached thereto; and a lug sleeve attached to and extending generally downwardly from the ice axe head. The lug sleeve has a hollow central portion with an open lower end which is formed to receive a top end of a handle so that the handle securely nests within the central hollow. The handle is anchored within the elongate sleeve such that the sleeve inhibits damaging of the handle by misplaced blows.
