    Abstract: A compressed air delivery system in which power from a power supply is transmitted to a rotary air compressor through a dry running, continuous variable transmission (CVT) utilizing a belt coupled between two pulleys enclosed within a CVT housing. The air pressure differential created by the rotary air compressor is used to urge cooling air through the CVT to cool the CVT belt. The pressure differential may be utilized to push cooling air into the CVT housing or to draw cooling air through the CVT housing. In one embodiment, a portion of the compressed air discharged from a supercharger may be routed through a bleed line and into the CVT housing.

    Abstract: A supercharger assembly includes a dry-running CVT coupled to a speed multiplying gear set, which is in turn coupled to a centrifugal supercharger. The CVT includes a CVT housing which has an opening formed therein to provide access to a face of the driven pulley, and a plurality of equally spaced bolt receivers arranged in a circle around the opening. The gear assembly includes a gear housing formed separate from the CVT housing. The gear housing has a plurality of bolt holes formed in it which are arranged in a circle and alignable with respective ones of the bolt receivers. The gear housing is selectively rotatable relative to the CVT housing by moving each of the bolt holes from alignment with a first respective one of the bolt receivers and into alignment with a second respective one of the bolt receivers and then installing fasteners therein.

    Abstract: A multi-phase centrifugal supercharging system (10) configured for supplying compressed induction fluid to an engine (E) is disclosed. The air induction system (10) broadly includes a drive assembly (12) powered by the engine (E), a supercharging assembly (14) driven by the drive assembly (12) to compress induction fluid, and an induction fluid flow control assembly (16) in communication with the supercharging assembly (14) to control operation of the supercharging assembly (14) and cooperating therewith to deliver the compressed induction fluid to the intake manifold (IM) of the engine (E). The supercharging assembly (14) includes a pair of centrifugal superchargers (28 and 30) that are phased by the control assembly (16) between multiple operating phases, including a series phase (172) and a parallel phase (176). An alternative air system (306) is also disclosed, in use with a pneumatic conveyor (300), that phases between normal series operation and parallel, clog-displacing operation.

    Abstract: Residual chloromethyl groups in methylene-bridged aromatic polymer adsorbents are susceptible to hydrolysis to benzyl alcohol groups and oxidation to benzoic acid groups. The introduction of these hydroxyl and carboxylic acid groups contributes to the water adsorption capacity or hydrophilicity of these adsorbents. Unfortunately, this hydrophilicity interferes with the utility of these resins as adsorbents for volatile organic compounds. By capping these residual chloromethyl groups with hydrophobic aromatic compounds prior to their opportunity to hydrolyze or oxidize, the hydrophobicity of methylene-bridged aromatic polymer adsorbents is increased and their utility for the absorption of organic compounds is enhanced.

    Abstract: An illuminating device for archery aiming scopes uses a focused, concentrated light beam to illuminate both the aiming mark and level of the scope. The preferred light source is a high brightness, focused light emitting diode which is mounted so as to project a narrow beam of light down onto the aiming mark from a position above and outside the field of view of the scope. Illumination of the level is achieved by means of multiple reflections of the light beam between the lens and the level, with the result that the bubble of the level brightens when the bow is in the desired vertical orientation. The light source is powered by a battery pack which includes an on-off switch and brightness adjusting variable resistance.

    Abstract: Nitro-substituted 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazoles of the formula ##STR1## wherein one of R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 is --NO.sub.2 and the other is --H, --NO.sub.2 or alkyl of 1 to 20 carbons and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently are --H or alkyl of 1 to 20 carbons, with the proviso that R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 contain a total of at least 7 carbons, are acidic, oil soluble compounds having utility for extraction of copper from strongly acidic ore leaches. Excellent selectivity for copper over iron is exhibited by the subject compounds.

    Abstract: The recovery of non-ferrous transition metals such as copper and nickel from acidic hydrometallurgical leach liquors with a 2-picolylamine chelate exchange resin is improved by the in situ reduction of Fe.sup.+.sup.3 present in the leach liquor with a water soluble reducing agent during the resin loading cycle. The chelate resin functions not only as a selective sorbent for the desired metal values, but also as a catalyst for the in situ reduction of Fe.sup.+.sup.3 to Fe.sup.+.sup.2. A suitable reducing agent such as SO.sub.2 or HCHO is fed into the chelate resin column with the leach liquor. When the loading cycle is completed, regeneration with sulfuric acid gives an enriched eluent with a high non-ferrous metal:Fe ratio. For example, using SO.sub.2 with a copper leach liquor feed, subsequent regeneration at about 70.degree. C gives better than 90 percent recovery of the copper as a highly enriched copper sulfate solution with a Cu:Fe ratio of about 10,000.
