  • Patent number: 5853645
Abstract: Improved low pressure molding compositions are disclosed which comprise an unsaturated thermosetting resin, an olefinically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with the thermosetting resin, a viscosity reducing additive, a thermoplastic additive and a thickener comprising one or more alkaline earth metal oxides or hydroxides which can provide the molding compositions with viscosities of less than 25 MMcps after aging.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 5, 1996
Date of Patent: December 29, 1998
Assignee: Union Carbide Chemicals & Plastics Technology Corporation
Inventors: Robert Lawrence Seats, Kenneth Earl Atkins, Carroll Glenn Reid
  • Patent number: 5811478
Abstract: Molding compositions comprising certain epoxy compounds, at least one antioxidant, an unsaturated thermosetting resin and an olefinically unsaturated monomer are disclosed. The disclosed compositions can provide enhanced yellowing resistance to articles molded from the compositions, particularly when the molding compositions contain white pigment. Processes from molding articles having enhanced yellowing resistance are also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 23, 1996
Date of Patent: September 22, 1998
Assignee: Union Carbide Chemicals & Plastics Technology Corporation
Inventors: Gary Charles Rex, Kenneth Earl Atkins
  • Patent number: 3992456
Abstract: Alkadienols are prepared by reacting a conjugated diolefin, such as butadiene, with water in the presence of palladium or platinum catalyst and in the presence of solvents. The addition of carbon dioxide to the reaction mixture greatly increases the yield of alkadienols. The products can be hydrogenated to saturated alcohols, useful for making plasticizers.

Date of Patent: November 16, 1976
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Kenneth Earl Atkins, Robert Michael Manyik, George Lawrence O'Connor
