Patent number: 10117158Abstract: Methods, systems, and instrumentalities are described to obtain application-based connectivity. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) may, in response to a request to access a connectivity-sponsored application, establish a control connection over a first access network for contacting an application connectivity coordinator. The establishment of control connection may include sending an attach request, receiving an IP address for a control link to the application connectivity coordinator, and receiving an IP address. Using the control connection, the WTRU may send an access network discovery request to the application connectivity coordinator. The WTRU may receive, from the application connectivity coordinator, a list of access networks. The WTRU may select a second access network from the list of access networks to access the connectivity-sponsored application.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2014Date of Patent: October 30, 2018Assignee: InterDigital Patent Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Xavier De Foy, Michelle Perras, Alexander Reznik, Kenneth F. Patent number: 9906949Abstract: A user may point a control device at a controllable device for which control is desired, and the control device may detect the targeted controllable device. Additionally, the control device may detect a plurality of wireless nodes and list the available wireless nodes. For example, the control device may identify wireless nodes associated with a room in the house, or the control device may detect the wireless nodes within a certain range. The list may be a selectable list and a user may select the desired device to control from the list. Upon detection or user selection, the control device may establish control of the wireless node and initiate actions associated with the selected device.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2017Date of Patent: February 27, 2018Assignee: InterDigital Patent Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth F Lynch, Robert A. Publication number: 20170272532Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing capture caching in a wireless network. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) or client device captures data from neighboring devices in the network and internally cache data that was traditionally cached in an edge node. The WTRU reassembles the captured data packets on a condition that the WTRU requests content associated with the captured data packets. If any segments are missing from the captured data packets, only those missing segments are retrieved from the server to repair the data. The reassembly of the data and the repair of missing segments is deferred until the data is needed by the WTRU.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 28, 2015Publication date: September 21, 2017Applicant: INTERDIGITAL PATENT HOLDINGS, INC.Inventors: Kenneth F. Lynch, Jun Li, John Cartmell

Patent number: 9655007Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed to communicate traffic flow information to a network. A user equipment (UE) may detect a traffic flow (e.g., using one or more of the traffic detection implementations described herein). A 5-tuple associated with the traffic flow may be unknown by the network. The UE may issue an alert to the network. The alert may indicate to the network that the traffic flow has been detected. The UE may determine the 5-tuple associated with the traffic flow. The UE may report the 5-tuple to the network. The report may be in response to one or more of: a request received from the network requesting traffic flow information; or, a determination that a first policy condition has been met.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2012Date of Patent: May 16, 2017Assignee: InterDigital Patent Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Alexander Reznik, Chonggang Wang, Catherine Livet, Kenneth F. Publication number: 20160087932Abstract: Embodiments for enabling traffic content identification by a wireless transmit/receive unit are provided. The WTRU may store interface binding entries in a database associating links in a web page to various traffic content types, such as video, audio, and text. Upon a request to access one of the links, a socket may be created based on a data mobility policy associated with the traffic content type. Alternately, the database may associate the links directly to interface types based on the data mobility policies. The Access Network Discovery and Selection Function (ANDSF) may provide the data mobility policies to the WTRU.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 2, 2015Publication date: March 24, 2016Inventors: Scott C.
