    Abstract: A lock assembly for installation on a rural type mailbox. A catch is attachable to the interior surface of the mailbox door and has an offset arm positionable interiorly of the mailbox. A plunger type lock is finger actuated by the postman and includes a bolt extendable into the mailbox interior to engage an opening in the catch arm. The plunger type lock is spring biased to an unlocked position upon key actuation by the box owner.
