  • Patent number: 4534481
Abstract: A flexible, snap-on closure for use in combination with a container neck in order to seal closed a container in a tamper-evident manner includes a flexible closure having a top surface, a cylindrical side wall, an inwardly protruding annular rib and an inwardly opening annular channel. The container neck is compatibly configured with a top rim defining the container opening and an outwardly opening annular channel disposed below the top rim such that the annular rib is configured to fit within the outwardly opening channel and the inwardly opening annular channel is configured to snugly receive the top rim. The closure further includes a bail handle attached to the side wall by means of two attachment ribs which are integral with the bail handle.

  • Patent number: 4413743
Abstract: A child-resistant safety container for preventing access to the contents by small children and infants includes a positive-on closure concept and necessitates a two-step release procedure in order to remove the cap from the container spout. The closure cap includes an internally threaded side wall with a pair of inwardly protruding lug means. The internally threaded cap is suitably adapted for receipt by an externally threaded container spout. Disposed in combination with the container spout are sawtooth detent means including two series of ratchet teeth which are spaced approximately 180 degrees apart. These ratchet teeth are suitably sized and arranged for interlocking engagement with the inwardly protruding lug means. However, one series of ratchet teeth are offset from the other series by a half ratchet tooth spacing so that the engagement of the locking lugs with the ratchet teeth alternates from one locking lug to the other with each angular turn equal to a half ratchet tooth.

  • Patent number: 4351442
Abstract: A child-resistant safety closure for preventing access to the contents of a container by small children and infants includes a positive-on closure concept and necessitates a two-step release procedure in order to remove the cap from the container spout. The closure cap includes a double wall construction wherein the outer wall has a pair of inwardly protruding locking lugs and the inner wall is internally threaded for receipt by an externally threaded container spout. Disposed in combination with the container spout is a sawtooth detent member including two series of ratchet teeth which are spaced approximately 180 degrees apart. These ratchet teeth are suitably sized and arranged for interlocking engagement with the inwardly protruding locking lugs.

  • Patent number: 4320861
Abstract: A tamper-proof cap for a container closure device for providing a visual indication of any tampering and tampering attempts with the container closure device includes an annular body portion, a pull ring portion detachably joined to the annular body portion, a tear-out strip portion joined to the pull ring portion and a pair of connecting membranes disposed between the tear-out strip portion and the annular body portion. The annular body portion includes an enclosing wall, an inwardly extending lid section joined to a top edge of the enclosing wall, and an outwardly extending lip section joined to a second opposite edge of the enclosing wall. The inwardly extending lid section is annular in shape and defines a center opening. The pull ring portion is detachably joined to the inner edge of this center opening by three reduced-thickness membrane sections which can be easily torn under nominal manual force.

  • Patent number: 4294382
Abstract: A cap-like closure device for a container which is arranged with a raised annular boss formed in one end to receive the closure device includes a flexible spout member secured to the raised annular boss by means of an anchor ring which is disposed overlapping the outermost edge of the flexible spout member and is crimpable to secure this outermost edge around the top lip portion of the raised annular boss. A resealable cap is provided which threadedly engages the top rim portion of the flexible spout and includes a depending annular groove in its top lip portion which is suitably sized to receive the top rim portion of the flexible spout to provide a secondary seal. Disposed over the resealable cap is a tamper-proof cap which is temporarily retained by the anchor ring, but which may be removed from beneath the innermost edge of the anchor ring by prying. Integral with the flexible spout member is a diaphragm which has joined thereto a pull tab ring member.

  • Patent number: 4261478
Abstract: A tamper-proof closure cap for use with the externally threaded neck opening of a container for providing a visible indication of tampering attempts with the container includes a generally cylindrical main body portion which is internally threaded and suitable for mating engagement with the externally threaded neck opening. Extending around the lower edge of the main body portion and for approximately 150.degree. is a removable sector ring which is joined to the main body portion by three evenly spaced-apart connecting elements. Located adjacent to the externally threaded neck opening is an interlock protuberance which includes an inclined lower surface and the top surface of the removable sector ring has a compatible sawtooth profile. The teeth of the sawtooth profile ratchetly engage the inclined surface of the interlock protuberance.

  • Patent number: 4111331
Abstract: A tamper-proof container closure device having a closed cap member and a crimping ring. The closed cap member is internally threaded and has a flared annular skirt extending around its base. The crimping ring is snapped into a retained position on the flared annular skirt before the cap is screwed onto a container. After the cap is screwed onto a container, the crimping ring is deformable radially inward around a suitable boss at the container opening onto which the container closure device is installed, thereby drawing the flared annular skirt into sealing engagement with the periphery of the boss and preventing removal of the cap without first visibly tearing off the ring.
