  • Patent number: 7569279
Abstract: A cold seal release film including a cold seal release layer employing a silicone oil slip agent therein. The release layer is oxidatively treated to a level to reduce the cold seal release force by at least 25%, as compared to the cold seal release force without oxidative treatment of the release layer. A method of forming the cold seal release film with an improved cold seal release layer as described above also forms a part of the present invention.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 4, 2006
Date of Patent: August 4, 2009
    Assignee: Applied Extrusion Technologies, Inc.
    Inventor: Kenneth Longmoore

  • Patent number: 7316848
Abstract: A multilayer, heat-sealable film includes at least a first outer layer and a second, heat-sealable inner layer having a first surface adhered to the outer layer and a second, opposed surface adapted to be heat sealed to and peeled from another surface. The first outer layer comprises a mixture of a polypropylene and a second polymer immiscible in the polypropylene, with the polypropylene constituting over 50% by weight of the mixture. The second layer is free of polybutylene and is formed predominantly of polymers from the group consisting of propylene-ethylene copolymers, ethylene-propylene-butene-1 terpolymers and propylene-butene-1 copolymers, wherein the propylene in the copolymers and terpolymers constitutes over 50%, by weight, of such copolymers and terpolymers. The films have a peel strength of less than 250 g/in. with peel separation taking place at the interface between the second layer and the first outer layer and/or through the first outer layer.

  • Publication number: 20070014992
Abstract: This invention relates to flexible packaging materials based on multi-layered films. Specifically, it relates to multi-layered flexible packaging films wherein the individual films or webs are bonded to each other through an adhesive layer. More specifically, the invention relates to such flexible packaging materials that have at least one aroma embedded within at least one adhesive layer, and wherein the two films on either side of the aroma-embedded adhesive layer may have different permeation characteristics to the aroma. Thus, this invention relates to multi-layered film-based flexible packaging materials with enhanced aroma characteristics. Finally, this invention also relates to a process for making such flexible packaging materials.

  • Publication number: 20050227103
Abstract: A cold seal release film in the form of a monolayer film or an outer layer of a multilayer film. The cold seal release film includes a nucleating agent and 10%-100% by weight of the polymer composition of a polymer selected from the group consisting of 1-butene homopolymer, 1-butene/ethylene random copolymers having over 50% by weight 1-butene therein blends of the 1-butene homopolymer and the 1-butene/ethylene random copolymers, and 90%-0% by weight of the polymer composition of a polymer selected from the group consisting of ethylene random copolymers of polypropylene, butene random copolymers of polypropylene and ethylene-butene random terpolymers of polypropylene.
