    Abstract: This invention relates to the removal of organic deposits containing asphaltenic compounds from surfaces with hydrocarbon-substituted arylsulfonic acids such as alkaryl sulfonic acids; a composition comprising a mixture of:(1) an aromatic hydrocarbon, and(2) a hydrocarbon-substituted-alkarylsulfonic acid such as an alkaryl sulfonic acid, for example an alkylbenzenesulfonic acid where the alkyl group has at least 5 carbon atoms, for example, from about 5 to 20 carbon atoms can be used for the removal of organic deposits containing asphaltenic compounds from surfaces.
