  • Patent number: 9606157
Abstract: In one embodiment a method to evaluate a shielding effectiveness of an enclosed structure, comprising collecting synthetic aperture data from an electromagnetic transmission originating from within the enclosed structure to generate a synthetic aperture dataset, performing angular spectrum processing on the synthetic aperture dataset to generate an angle of arrival dataset and determining a shielding effectiveness parameter from the angle of arrival dataset. Other embodiments may be described.

Inventors: Dennis Whetten, Dennis M. Lewis, Kenneth P. Kirchoff
  • Patent number: 9356342
Abstract: A method for determining a direct antenna coupling in a reverberant environment is disclosed. Radiowave energy is emitted in the reverberant environment from a transmitting antenna to a receiving antenna at a plurality of frequencies, and discrete frequency stirring data is collected at a plurality of frequencies. The discrete frequency stirring data is amplitude corrected and phase corrected using an expected amplitude shift and an expected phase shift at each of the frequencies to provide corrected discrete frequency stirring data. The direct antenna coupling is determined based on the corrected discrete frequency stirring data.

  • Patent number: 9038949
Abstract: An assembly for shielding an aircraft from electromagnetic energy may include a window mounting configured to be conductively coupled to an aperture in a fuselage of an aircraft. The window mounting may include a window pane having an electromagnetically-reflective coating for reflecting electromagnetic energy. The window pane may remain electrically isolated from the fuselage prior to the electromagnetic energy exceeding a frequency of approximately 1 GHz. The window mounting may further include a capacitive gasket capacitively coupling the window pane to the fuselage after the frequency of the electromagnetic energy reflected by the window pane exceeds approximately 1 GHz.

  • Patent number: 8800926
Abstract: A system for shielding an aircraft from electromagnetic energy includes a fuselage, aperture, window mounting, and window plug. The fuselage provides an electrically conductive envelope. The aperture is disposed in the fuselage. The window mounting spans the aperture. The window plug spans the aperture. The window mounting and the window plug are electrically coupled to the fuselage and provide an electrical path spanning the aperture.

  • Patent number: 8565758
Abstract: An integrated wireless network and associated method are provided for facilitating wireless communication onboard an aircraft. The integrated wireless network includes a wireless distribution system including a wired interface and a plurality of wireless radios. The wireless distribution system may also include a combiner and one or more antennas, such as leaky feeder antenna(s), extending through the cabin compartment of the aircraft. The combiner may provide the combined wireless signals to the antenna for transmission. And, the combiner may deconstruct wireless signals received by the antenna and provide the deconstructed wireless signals to a respective wireless radio. The integrated wireless network of this embodiment also includes one or more wireless data concentrators having a plurality of wireless radios in communication with the antenna.
