  • Publication number: 20070143895
Abstract: Ipomoea batatas ‘Sweet Caroline Green Yellow’ is a moderately compact to slightly trailing cultivar. This cultivar is distinguishable from other cultivars by its green and yellow to light yellow variegation. The plant has moderate vigor, is moderately to well branched and is well suited for container production. The production of flowers by ‘Sweet Caroline Green Yellow’ is sparse to moderate under short day conditions.
    Type: Application
    Filed: March 31, 2006
    Publication date: June 21, 2007
    Inventors: George Yencho, Kenneth Pecota
  • Publication number: 20070143897
Abstract: Ipomoea batatas ‘Sweet Caroline Bewitched Purple’ is an erect to semi-erect, bunch-type cultivar producing many shoots and having very dense foliage. This cultivar is distinguishable from other cultivars by its large, reniform, toothed, purple leaves and erect to semi-erect architecture. The plant has good vigor, is very well branched and produces an attractive, round mound of foliage. It is well suited for container production and/or ground cover or border applications. The production of flowers by ‘Sweet Caroline Bewitched Purple’ is limited even under short day conditions.

  • Publication number: 20070143894
Abstract: Ipomoea batatas ‘Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Red’ is a moderately compact cultivar producing many shoots and having dense foliage. This cultivar is distinguishable from other cultivars by its small to medium-sized, heart-shaped, red-purple to red-bronze colored leaves. The plant has good vigor, but is less vigorous than Ipomoea batatas ‘Margarita’ and ‘Blackie’, and unlike these cultivars, ‘Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Red’ may be grown in containers with other species. The production of flowers by ‘Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Red’ is relatively rare even under short day conditions.

  • Publication number: 20070143893
Abstract: Ipomoea batatas ‘Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Purple’ is a compact to moderately-compact cultivar producing many shoots and having dense foliage. This cultivar is distinguishable from other cultivars by its small to medium-sized heart- to spade-shaped dark purple leaves. The plant has a good vigor, but is less vigorous than Ipomoea batatas ‘Margarita’ and ‘Blackie’, and unlike these cultivars, ‘Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Purple’ may be grown in containers with other species. The production of flowers by ‘Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Purple’ is relatively rare even under short day conditions.

  • Publication number: 20070143896
Abstract: Ipomoea batatas ‘Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Light Green’ is a very compact to compact, partially mounded cultivar producing many shoots and having dense foliage. This cultivar is distinguishable from other cultivars by small, heart-shaped, light green to chartreuse colored leaves and erect to semi-erect architecture. The plant has good vigor, is very well branched, and has thin stems that tend to intertwine. It is much less vigorous than Ipomoea batatas ‘Margarita’ and ‘Blackie’, and is well suited for container production. The production of flowers by ‘Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Light Green’ is rare even under short day conditions.

  • Publication number: 20070061936
Abstract: Ipomoea batatas ‘Covington’ is an orange-fleshed, smooth-skinned, rose-colored, table stock sweetpotato. ‘Covington’ produces yields equal to ‘Beauregard’, the dominant sweetpotato variety produced in the United States, but it is 5-10 days later in maturity. The storage roots of ‘Covington’ are generally shorter and more uniformly shaped and fewer “jumbos” are produced as compared with ‘Beauregard’, resulting in higher “pack-out” by sweetpotato packers. The dry matter content of ‘Covington’ storage roots is slightly higher than that of ‘Beauregard’. ‘Covington’ is also resistant to the russet crack strain of sweetpotato feathery mottle virus, moderately resistant to southern root knot nematode, and appears to be less sensitive to genotype by environmental interactions (measured as an improved overall appearance score, and the percentage of culls and off-types present at harvest), all of which are considered to be major flaws in the variety ‘Beauregard’.

  • Publication number: 20060010541
Abstract: Ipomoea batatas ‘Sweet Caroline Red’ has a very distinct coloration; new shoots are yellow-green in color and transition to a dark burgundy-red color when mature. The stems and petioles of the mature plant are also dark burgundy-red in color. The leaves are large, palmately lobed and veined. ‘Sweet Caroline Red’ has a moderately compact growth habit and is a low, mounding-to-trailing plant with an overall oval shape that is suitable for use as a ground cover or in containerized landscape settings. The plant also has excellent vigor.
