  • Publication number: 20080050839
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus and method for detecting lung cancer. The apparatus is composed of a breath capture device including a colorimetric sensor array with a plurality of chemoresponsive dyes deposited thereon in a predetermined pattern combination, wherein the dyes produce a distinct and direct spectral, transmission or reflectance response in the presence of analytes in the exhaled breath of lung cancer patients. Air flow, temperature regulation, and visual imaging components of the instant apparatus are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20060244164
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing nanometer-sized particles, the method including the steps of forming of mixture by mixing a first precursor reactant, a second precursor reactant, a surface-stabilizing surfactant, and a high boiling point liquid to form a mixture, forming a mist of droplets of the mixture, heating the droplets to cause a reaction between species of the first and second precursor reactants within the heated droplets, and collecting the nanometer-sized products.
    Type: Application
    Filed: October 10, 2003
    Publication date: November 2, 2006
Applicant: The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois
    Inventors: Yuri Didenko, Kenneth Suslick
  • Publication number: 20060121123
Abstract: A method of enhancing the contrast of an image of a sample, comprises forming an image of a mixture, by exposing the mixture to electromagnetic radiation. The mixture comprises the sample and microparticles. The enhancement is particularly suitable for optical coherence tomography.
    Type: Application
    Filed: June 17, 2003
    Publication date: June 8, 2006

  • Publication number: 20050171449
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus for detecting the presence of exhaled ammonia and a method for using the same to detect the present of a Helicobacter in a subject. The apparatus is composed of a breath capture device having a sensor plate with at least one selected Lewis acid dye (e.g., a metal ion-containing dye such as a metalloporphyrin) deposited thereon which produces a detectable spectral, transmission or reflectance response in the presence of ammonia.
