  • Patent number: 9049683
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium for registration of a mobile communication device include receiving a tracking area update request from the mobile communication device. Determining if the mobile communication device is categorized as moving or stationary. Categorizing the mobile communication list as one of moving or stationary based on the tracking area update request. Transmitting a tracking area list and a timer value to the mobile communications device based on the categorizing of the mobile communication device and the tracking area update request. The tracking area list and timer value can also be based on other factors.

  • Patent number: 8224357
Abstract: To address the need for new techniques that can improve paging efficiency, a network may employ a method such as that depicted in flow diagram 100 of FIG. 1. The network combines (110) at least one active set associated with each of N previous interactions of a mobile unit to produce a last location set, where N is a number of previous interactions of the mobile unit with the network. The network then initiates (120) paging of the mobile unit in each coverage area represented in this last location set. This method may be further optimized by determining the value of N such that a desired probability of locating the mobile unit in a coverage area represented in the last location set is at least minimally achieved.

  • Patent number: 8027693
Abstract: A method in one example comprises the steps of receiving a call intended for a designated cellular subscriber unit at a serving MSC, determining that the designated cellular subscriber unit, during a recent prior use of the serving MSC, responded to an Intersystem Page (ISPAGE) message from a border MSC, and transmitting an initial paging message to the designated cellular subscriber unit via an ISPAGE message directed toward said border MSC.

  • Patent number: 7835739
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for excluding ineffective Inter System Page (ISPAGE) attempts in a mobile switching center (MSC). The present invention involves determining a time difference between an arrival time of an ISPAGE message and a time of a last seen activity of a mobile communications device. The ISPAGE message is dropped if the time difference exceeds an optimum time cutoff value. Also, the present invention provides a technique for determining the optimal time cutoff value by determining the fraction of all ISPAGE messages that may be dropped, and the fraction of all ISPAGE messages that produce page respones that will be admitted as a function of the optimal cutoff time value.

  • Patent number: 7366548
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for alerting a mobile unit of a missed call. A mobile unit receives a call request. If the mobile unit does not answer the call request and the mobile unit is stationary, the mobile unit waits for the mobile unit to move. Upon movement, the mobile unit notifies, via an audible tone, vibration, or a visual indicator, that the mobile unit had a call while it was stationary.

  • Publication number: 20070281661
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for determining if a mobile unit is transient. An MSC receives a location event including a cell site and a time from a mobile unit. The MSC compares the time of the location event with the time of a previous location event for the current cell to get a time difference. If the time difference is greater than the predetermined value, the MSC indicates that the mobile unit is transient.
