  • Patent number: 9202504
Abstract: A method for producing a magnetic disk device includes injecting replacement gas into a hermetically-sealed enclosure by means of an injection nozzle while suctioning gas from inside of the hermetically-sealed enclosure by means of a suction nozzle in such a way that the gas pressure inside of the enclosure does not fall below the vapor pressure of the organic compounds present inside of the enclosure, wherein the hermetically-sealed enclosure houses within a magnetic disk for storing data, a magnetic head for writing/reading the data, and an actuator for moving the magnetic head relative to the magnetic disk, and wherein a gas injection port and a gas expulsion port are formed in the hermetically-sealed enclosure and provide communication between the inside and outside, wherein an injection nozzle is disposed at the gas injection port and a suction nozzle is disposed at the gas expulsion port.

  • Publication number: 20090300907
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic disk unit, the method permitting easy and efficient introduction of a low-density gas into the enclosure. According to one embodiment, an enclosure of the magnetic disk unit has a gas inlet and a gas outlet, each of which is provided with a filter. When the enclosure is filled with helium, the mass flow rate of helium being supplied to the gas inlet is detected and the mass flow rate of helium being supplied to the gas inlet is controlled according to the thus detected mass flow rate of helium.

  • Patent number: 7271974
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a disk device capable of writing highly accurate servo data using an extremely simple technique, and a manufacturing method therefor. According to one embodiment, a method for manufacturing a disk device includes: mounting a magnetic disk and each assembly for driving the magnetic disk, such as an SPM and a VCM, in a base and attaching a top cover so as to seal the enclosure (made up of the base and the top cover) with each assembly of the HDD therein; replacing the air within the hard disk assembly (HDA) with a gas having a lower density than air, such as He; writing servo data to the magnetic disk in a self servo track write operation; and replacing the gas within the HDA with air.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 18, 2007
Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.
Inventors: Hiroshi Fukuyama, Kensuke Ishiwata, Kanji Nakao, Kazuya Takeda, Kazuhiko Washizu
