  • Publication number: 20080047823
Abstract: A method of forming a chemical composition such as a chemical hydride is described and which includes the steps of selecting a composition having chemical bonds and which is capable of forming a chemical hydride; providing a source of hydrogen; and exposing the selected composition to an amount of ionizing radiation to encourage the changing of the chemical bonds of the selected composition, and chemically reacting the selected composition with the source of hydrogen to facilitate the formation of a chemical hydride.

  • Publication number: 20070137246
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for the transportation of hydrogen including the use of a carrier medium and the subsequent separation of the hydrogen from the carrier medium upon delivery of the mixed gas stream to a desired location. In one example, up to approximately 20% hydrogen (molar fraction) may be mixed with natural gas and transported through a natural gas pipeline. The hydrogen may be separated from the natural gas by liquefying the natural gas and separating the liquid and vapor components in a gas-liquid separator to form a natural gas stream and a hydrogen stream. One or both of the separated streams may be used in cooling of the mixed stream. Precompression and expansion pressure of the various streams may be used to influence the purity level of the hydrogen. Other constituents, or impurities, present in the mixed gas stream may also be removed as may be desired.

  • Publication number: 20060228295
Abstract: A method for rendering a contaminated biomass inert includes providing a first composition; providing a second composition; reacting the first and second compositions together to form an alkaline hydroxide; providing a contaminated biomass and reacting the alkaline hydroxide with the contaminated biomass to render the contaminated biomass inert and further produce hydrogen gas, and a byproduct which includes the first composition.

  • Publication number: 20050204825
Abstract: A wireless sensor system includes a passive sensor apparatus configured to be embedded within a concrete structure to monitor infiltration of contaminants into the structure. The sensor apparatus includes charging circuitry and a plurality of sensors respectively configured to measure environmental parameters of the structure which include information related to the infiltration of contaminants into the structure. A reader apparatus is communicatively coupled to the sensor apparatus, the reader apparatus being configured to provide power to the charging circuitry during measurements of the environmental parameters by the sensors. The reader apparatus is configured to independently interrogate individual ones of the sensors to obtain information measured by the individual sensors. The reader apparatus is configured to generate an induction field to energize the sensor apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20050180915
Abstract: A method of producing hydrogen is disclosed and which includes providing a first composition; providing a second composition; reacting the first and second compositions together to produce a chemical hydride; providing a liquid and reacting the chemical hydride with the liquid in a manner to produce a high pressure hydrogen gas and a byproduct which includes the first composition; and reusing the first composition formed as a byproduct in a subsequent chemical reaction to form additional chemical hydride.

  • Publication number: 20050144979
Abstract: A method of liquefying a gas is disclosed and which includes the steps of pressurizing a liquid; mixing a reactant composition with the pressurized liquid to generate a high pressure gas; supplying the high pressure gas to an expansion engine which produces a gas having a reduced pressure and temperature, and which further generates a power and/or work output; coupling the expansion engine in fluid flowing relation relative to a refrigeration assembly, and wherein the gas having the reduced temperature is provided to the refrigeration assembly; and energizing and/or actuating the refrigeration assembly, at least in part, by supplying the power and/or work output generated by the expansion engine to the refrigeration assembly, the refrigeration assembly further reducing the temperature of the gas to liquefy same.
