  • Publication number: 20150358681
Abstract: A system and method for peer group evaluation for mass distributed digital content including providing a registry for a plurality of users and classifying each member of the plurality of users as at least one of a sender, a screener, and/or a receiver. In such systems and methods, a sender submits digital content to a server, a screener views the digital content and provides an evaluation for digital content, and a receiver receives the digital content. Further, such systems and methods receive digital content from at least one sender, send the digital content to at least one screener, and receive one or more evaluations of the digital content from the at least one screener. The systems and methods determine a rating of the content based on the one or more evaluations of the digital content and send the digital content to one or more receivers.

  • Patent number: 7124441
Abstract: A CD-ROM has an obscurable section wherein exists a photosensitive mask material layer or constituent operative to alter the optical properties of areas subjected to prolonged exposure to the CD-ROM read laser radiation. Digital information stored on a CD-ROM is made accessible by use of a password, which is generated from user machine unique information, and which is written on the CD-ROM via selective exposure of the CD-ROM to the radiation used to read the CD-ROM.

  • Publication number: 20030233547
Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for preventing and/or tracking unauthorized copying or distribution of downloaded software. In general, the software is tagged with user identifying and/or platform-identifying information, preferably in coded form, both to allow a validation check to determine whether a particular platform is authorized and to trace a pirated copy to its original authorized user. The platform-identifying information is preferably placed in numerous locations, some of which may be used for the validation check, others of which may not be. In addition, other information usable to identify an original user or purchaser may be embedded within the material of interest. Several alternative methods of tagging the software may be used depending upon whether the particular portion being tagged comprises executable or non-executable content.

  • Patent number: 6609203
Abstract: Digital information stored on a CD-ROM is accessible by use of a password, which is readable initially on the CD-ROM and which subsequently becomes at least partially unreadable due to exposure of the CD-ROM to the radiation used to read the CD-ROM. A user machine which read the password before the password became at least partially unreadable may subsequently use it to access encrypted information on the CD-ROM, while a user machine which has not read the password before it became at least partially unreadable will be unable subsequently to read the password, and hence unable to access encrypted information on the CD-ROM.

  • Patent number: 6440045
Abstract: An abdominal exercise apparatus which is pivotally adjustable. The apparatus is configured to rest on a floor and support a user's hands and knees during operation and includes a guide member having at least one elongate rail, a movable support member mounted to the elongate rail for slidable movement thereon and a stationary base with the guide member being pivotably mounted to the stationary base for angular adjustment of the guide member relative to the stationary base about an axis substantially perpendicular to the floor. The guide member can be pivoted relative to the stationary base to position the guide member angularly from the stationary base for conditioning abdominal oblique muscles. Furthermore, the guide member can be pivoted approximately 180° to facilitate storage and transport of the apparatus. In an embodiment, control over the sliding resistance between the movable support member and the elongate rail of the guide member is provided.

  • Patent number: 5978964
Abstract: A sportswear garment manufactured from a form-fitting clothing article having at least one flexible weight and a plurality of pockets to receive and maintain the weights in an immobile manner is provided. The garment may be provided in a variety of forms including for fitting various body portions. The apparel items are constructed of lightweight, durable form-fitting fabrics that conform to the body of the athlete when worn. Various pocket styles and positionings are possible. The flexible weights may have a flexible metal core surrounded by a cushioning layer and/or a plastic coating on the cushioning layer. In another embodiments, weights are provided having a body comprising a thermoplastic elastomer containing a finely divided mineral filler, the body preferably being covered by an expandible knit material. A method is also provided for manufacturing the latter type of weight.

  • Patent number: 5956048
Abstract: An electronic book system including a portable display unit and a mated downloading stand which receives the unit in a plug-in manner so that data and power ports of the unit matably connected with respective data and power connectors of the stand. Upon insertion, data is downloaded to a memory in the unit when a data signal is supplied through the data port. The display device has a tabular shaped housing with a display screen and control buttons applied to a front planar surface of the housing. The stand is modularly designed to be stacked adjacently with additional like stands in mated connection with each other for common data and power communication. A system for preventing unauthorized use of stored book data is also provided wherein each unit is assigned a unique electronic code value, and wherein the book data on a particular storage medium may be initially accessed by any coded unit, but wherein subsequent access by other units is denied.
