There is at least one bend indication in the form of a through slit or an elongated opening arranged in the absorbent layer. One of the surfaces of the absorbent layer is mutually joined with the material layer in contact therewith, within a region immediately surrounding the bend indication, on both sides thereof. The absorbent layer's opposite surface in this region is not joined to the material layer in contact therewith.

The layer of compressible and resilient material has a surface area extending entirely over the surface of the absorbent body. Further, the layer of compressible and resilient material is thicker in a longitudinal central region of the napkin than in remainder of the napkin and the layer of compressible and resilient material is resiliently compressible in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the absorbent body, so as to urge the sanitary napkin to fill out all available space between the sanitary napkin and the body of the wearer during use.

An elastically stretchable waist border includes first and second side parts and central parts disposed therebetween. The opposing side edges of the front part and the back part are joined together by the first and second side parts of the waist border. The elasticized waist border has a greater resistance to stretch in the first and second side parts than in the central parts thereof, when no load is acting on the sanitary napkin or guard.
