  • Publication number: 20240058743
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for integrating direct air capture of carbon dioxide with capture of carbon dioxide from a point source. The systems and methods can include exposing an adsorbent to a low CO2 content gas flow (e.g., air) at conditions similar to ambient conditions to perform an initial amount of sorption of CO2. The initial sorption results in a partially loaded sorbent having a first sorbent loading. The partially loaded sorbent can then be exposed to a flue gas and/or other gas flow that contains a higher CO2 content. This allows a second sorption step to be performed using a higher CO2 content gas, resulting in an additionally loaded sorbent having a second (higher) sorbent loading. The sorbed CO2 can then be desorbed from the sorbent.

  • Patent number: 11779899
Abstract: In at least one embodiment, a reactor includes a reactor body. A first internal heat exchanger and a second internal heat exchanger are within the reactor body. One or more slabs of one or more static inserts are disposed between the first internal heat exchanger and the second internal heat exchanger. A plurality of flow paths is defined between the plurality of flow channels of the first internal heat exchanger and the plurality of flow channels of the second internal heat exchanger. Each static insert is configured to rotate or translate a flow path so that on average, the existing boundary layers formed in the first heat exchanger are moved away from the channel walls by a distance of equal or greater than the thickness of the boundary layers at the exit of the first heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 11752486
Abstract: In one embodiment, a reactor includes a reactor body and a reactor head. The reactor head has a reactor head body and one or more inlets disposed tangentially to the reactor head body. In one embodiment, a polymerization process for forming polymer includes introducing in a first direction a stream including a monomer. The stream and a catalyst system are flowed in a second direction through at least one internal heat exchanger. The second direction is substantially orthogonal to the first direction. The reaction zone includes at least one internal heat exchanger. At least a portion of the monomer of the stream is polymerized in the reaction zone to produce a polymer product. The polymer product is recovered from the reaction zone.

  • Publication number: 20220204879
Abstract: Methods of the present disclosure may comprise: introducing a first effluent and a second effluent in a gasifier of a partial oxidation unit to produce a waste gas, wherein the first effluent comprises one or more hydrocarbon containing feeds and the second effluent comprises air, enriched air with oxygen or oxygen; selectively removing hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from the waste gas; combining the waste gas and steam in a water-gas shift unit to produce a shift gas comprising hydrogen and carbon dioxide; separating the carbon dioxide from the shift gas in a carbon capture unit to produce a carbon dioxide-enriched effluent and an effluent comprising a hydrogen- and nitrogen-enriched mixture; and recovering the carbon dioxide from the carbon dioxide-enriched effluent.

  • Publication number: 20210222111
Abstract: A method of operating a bioreactor includes containing an algae slurry within the bioreactor for cultivation, discharging a portion of the algae slurry to a heat pump that circulates a refrigerant, and receiving the portion of the algae slurry at a first heat exchanger and transferring heat from the algae slurry to the refrigerant. The method further includes discharging a cooled algae slurry and a heated refrigerant from the first heat exchanger, receiving and compressing the heated refrigerant at a compressor and thereby discharging a compressed refrigerant, and receiving the compressed refrigerant at a second heat exchanger and transferring heat from the compressed refrigerant to a fluid. The method further includes discharging a cooled refrigerant and steam from the second heat exchanger, receiving and expanding the cooled refrigerant at an expansion valve, and receiving and utilizing the steam at a downstream application in fluid communication with the second heat exchanger.
