  • Publication number: 20190307726
Abstract: Disclosed herein is glutathione in conjunction with an isoselenazol or isothiazol derivative, e.g., ebselen or ebsulfur derivative, to treat diabetes, lupus, or other chronic inflammatory disease. The glutathione is preferably provided in a rapid release oral formulation that presents the glutathione for absorption in the first part of the ileum. The isoselenazol or isothiazol derivative is preferably provided in a delayed release formulation to avoid overlapping high enteric concentration. These may be provided within the same unit dosage form.

  • Publication number: 20190185883
Abstract: Some aspects of this disclosure provide compositions, methods, systems, and kits for controlling the activity of RNA-programmable endonucleases, such as Cas9, or for controlling the activity of proteins comprising a Cas9 variant fused to a functional effector domain, such as a nuclease, nickase, recombinase, deaminase, transcriptional activator, transcriptional repressor, or epigenetic modifying domain. For example, the inventive proteins provided comprise a ligand-dependent intein, the presence of which inhibits one or more activities of the protein (e.g., gRNA binding, enzymatic activity, target DNA binding). The binding of a ligand to the intein results in self-excision of the intein, restoring the activity of the protein.

  • Publication number: 20190114306
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods of managing remote devices. The system can include a server with memory, a detection module, and a collection module. The memory can store a management information base (MIB) having a hierarchical tree of object identifiers and corresponding object values. The detection module can query devices and receive a first object identifier and its first object value, which can vary from those in the MIB; and use patterns to match the first object identifier and object value; and generate an identification of the device from the matches. The collection module can use the identification to select a collection template, which can indicate a subtree of the MIB and a collection pattern; traverse the subtree and identify a second object identifier that matches the collection pattern, and its second object value; and associate the second object value with the first object value.

  • Patent number: 10251504
Abstract: A Christmas tree disposal casing, having an upper end and a lower end, and a first panel and a second panel that each have an inner edge, an outer edge, an upper edge, and a lower edge. The casing has a flat configuration and also has a sleeve configuration for encasing a tree therein when the first panel is joined to the second panel at or near their outer edges. An expansion panel is affixed near and extends between the inner edges. The inner edges are selectively joined directly together along an expansion seam. When the expansion seam is opened, the expansion panel provides additional circumference to the casing for holding larger trees. The outer edge of the first panel is selectively joined to a secondary zipper edge on the second panel, located inwardly of the outer edge of the second panel, to reduce the circumference of the casing.

  • Publication number: 20180355624
Abstract: A hybrid drive train for a self propelled power trowel includes a frame having a centerline from front to rear, an engine-generator set, a pair of rotors with trowel blades tiltably connected to the frame and positioned to support the frame above a concrete surface being finished, electric motors for driving the rotors, means for tilting each rotor toward and away from the centerline, and means for tilting a rotor fore and aft, parallel to the centerline. A rectifier and inverter in series at the engine-generator output allows engine speed to be regulated by a capacitor bank, and usage of highly efficient brushless AC synchronous motors to drive the rotors. A rechargeable battery may be connected in parallel with the capacitor bank.

  • Publication number: 20180319381
Abstract: An anti-lock braking system for an autonomous vehicle includes a memory storing instructions relating to braking control, a detection system for detecting an event necessitating braking of the autonomous vehicle, and a controller. The controller is in communication with the detection system and is configured to execute the instructions to receive detection and identification of the event, determine a vehicle deceleration rate based on the identification of the event, and operate the anti-lock braking system in a selected mode of a plurality of different predetermined operating modes based on the vehicle deceleration rate.

  • Patent number: 10116619
Abstract: Systems and methods of the present disclosure facilitate provisioning an out-of-band system. In some embodiments, the system includes a server of a first domain, which includes a management engine. The management engine can establish a network tunnel with a device on a second domain, and modify the domain on a DHCP server on the second domain to be the first domain. The device can use a fixed subdomain of the first domain to transmit a provisioning request for an OOB management system to a provisioning engine in the first domain, which can transmit a certificate including the first domain to the device. The device can validate the certificate by comparing the domain in the certificate to the domain from the DHCP server and verify that they match. The management engine can modify the DHCP server to have the original second domain.

  • Publication number: 20180186421
Abstract: This invention derives both velocity and acceleration (deceleration) of a motor vehicle (typically a motorcycle), and turns on brake lights accordingly. In that motorcyclists balance their vehicles with both feet when stopped at a traffic light, the brake pedal will not be depressed, and thus the brake light may or may not be illuminated, depending upon hand position. This invention senses the stationary vehicle in this case and illuminates the brake light accordingly. Similarly, in that some deceleration activities by motorcyclists are executed by a hard downshift, the vehicle can drastically slow down without activation of the brake light; this sudden deceleration is also sensed by the invention and similarly results in illumination of the brake lights. Sensing of these conditions is carried out by a velocity signal (derived from the motorcycle) or by the incorporation of an internal GPS receiver.

  • Publication number: 20170197014
Abstract: Methods for improving the antibacterial characteristics of biomedical implants and related implants manufactured according to such methods. In some implementations, a biomedical implant comprising a silicon nitride ceramic material may be subjected to a surface roughening treatment so as to increase a surface roughness of at least a portion of the biomedical implant to a roughness profile having an arithmetic average of at least about 500 nm Ra. In some implementations, a coating may be applied to a biomedical implant. Such a coating may comprise a silicon nitride ceramic material, and may be applied instead of, or in addition to, the surface roughening treatment process.

  • Patent number: 9280281
Abstract: A mechanism for allowing a user to prove their identity on touch-based devices employing the use of a touch surface in firmware-controlled environments is discussed. The user may prove his or her identity by entering a series of strokes on the touch-based device to form a word or image. Characteristics of the entered strokes such as stroke order and stroke direction are compared to stored stroke characteristics that were gathered from a drawing of the same word or image during a user enrollment process. If the stroke characteristics comparison is acceptable, the user identity is verified.
