  • Publication number: 20200397474
Abstract: Access assemblies includes an instrument valve housing and a valve assembly disposed within the cavity of the instrument valve housing. The valve assembly includes a guard assembly, and a seal assembly disposed distal of the guard assembly. In embodiments, the seal assembly includes a plurality of seal segments in an overlapping configuration. Each seal segment of the plurality of seal segments includes a seal portion having a smooth surface and a ribbed surface. The ribbed surfaces include a plurality of ribs extending in a radial direction.

  • Patent number: 10792071
Abstract: Access assemblies includes an instrument valve housing and a valve assembly disposed within the cavity of the instrument valve housing. The valve assembly includes a guard assembly, a seal assembly disposed adjacent to the guard assembly, and a centering mechanism for maintaining the seal assembly and guard assembly centered within a cavity of the instrument valve. In embodiments, the seal assembly includes a plurality of seal sections that are movable from an unfolded configuration to folded configuration in which the seal assembly forms a hexagonal member defining an opening to facilitate sealed passage of a surgical instrument. The seal sections may include a tapered inner edge for engaging a surgical instrument inserted through the instrument valve housing.

  • Publication number: 20200214740
Abstract: A cannula includes an instrument valve housing and a valve assembly disposed within the instrument valve housing. The valve assembly includes a seal assembly having at least one seal member including a ring portion and a septum seal extending across the ring portion. The valve assembly further includes a guard assembly and a centering mechanism. The guard assembly includes a plurality of guard members. Each guard member includes a ring portion, and a flap portion having first and second flap sections and a groove disposed between the first and second flap sections. The centering mechanism includes an annular ring and a plurality of spokes extending outwardly from the annular ring. The assemblies are supported within the annular ring which is disposed within the instrument valve housing. The flap portions of the guard members are configured to engage and stretch the septum seal during reception of a surgical instrument through the valve assembly.
