  • Patent number: 5364898
Abstract: Improved thermoplastic compositions characterized by high tensile elongation values are described. They comprise polyphenylene ether resin, a hydrogenated elastomeric block copolymer having an A-B-A' structure, with specific molecular weight values for the copolymer blocks and a phenylsiloxane fluid of particular composition. Electrical conductor articles which include polymerized thermoplastic compositions as mentioned above represent another embodiment of this invention.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 14, 1993
Date of Patent: November 15, 1994
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Gim F. Lee, Jr., Kevin M. Snow
  • Patent number: 5357022
Abstract: An oxidative coupling method is provided using a diorganophenol such as 2,6-xylenol and a silicone macromer having terminal phenol groups such as the hydrosilylation reaction product of eugenol. Thermoplastic polymeric products such as silicone-polyphenylene ether block copolymers, which can be flame retardant, as well as blends thereof with thermoplastic polymers, such as polyphenylene ether, also are provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 16, 1993
Date of Patent: October 18, 1994
    Assignee: General Electric Company

  • Patent number: 5204438
Abstract: A silicone cyclic, such as hexaorganotrisiloxane is lithiated with an alkyl lithium compound followed by treatment with a diorganohalosilane to produce a polydiorganosiloxane having a terminal diorganohydridesiloxy unit. The platinum catalyzed addition of a 2-alkenyl-6-organophenol results in the production of a phenol-siloxane macromer. Conversion of the phenol-siloxane macromer to a silicone polyphenylene ether graft copolymer is effected by oxidatively coupling the 2,6-diorganophenol to the phenol-siloxane macromer.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5169887
Abstract: Improved flame retardance and smoke/heat reduction has been imparted to polyphenylene ethers by blending the polyphenylene ethers with organopolysiloxane fluids having a critical mole % range of chemically combined phenylsiloxane units.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 15, 1992
Date of Patent: December 8, 1992

  • Patent number: 5039772
Abstract: Flame retardant graft organopolysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymers are provided which can be made by effecting addition between a silicon-hydride siloxane and an aliphatically unsaturated substituted bisphenol followed by phosgenation of the resulting adduct. Alternatively, direct addition of the silicon-hydride siloxane onto an aliphatically unsaturated substituted polycarbonate backbone also can be effected.

Date of Patent: August 13, 1991
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Gary C. Davis, Barbara E. McGrath, Kevin M. Snow
  • Patent number: 5025074
Abstract: Phenol-organopolysiloxane chainstoppers are phosgenated in combination with a bisphenol to make flame retardant organopolysiloxane-polycarbonate triblock copolymers. The phenol-organopolysiloxane chainstoppers can be made by effecting addition between an aliphatically unsaturated phenol and a silicon-hydride organopolysiloxane.
