  • Patent number: 10696220
Abstract: An illuminated decorative part includes a flat visible side facing an observer and an illumination region behind the visible side as viewed by the observer, which has multiple discrete light sources. At least partially transparent optical elements that influence the light are arranged between the visible side and the illumination region. The optical elements include at least one flat scattering element. The decorative part includes light guides for guiding the light orthogonally to the surface of the visible side arranged between the scattering element and at least one—but not all—of the light sources.

Date of Patent: June 30, 2020
    Assignee: DAIMLER AG
Inventors: Christian Betz, Daniel Betz, Martin Borowski, Kevin Moser
  • Patent number: 10513222
Abstract: A motor vehicle trim part with illumination includes a visible panel that is at least partly translucent and has a visible side. At least one illuminating element is arranged on the opposite side of the visible side of the visible panel. At least one light guide is arranged so that the light of the at least one illuminating element can be coupled and which is optically coupled to the visible panel. The at least one light guide defines a first light path, the end face of which is optically coupled to the visible panel, and a second light path is defined, the lateral surface of which is coupled to the visible panel.

  • Patent number: 8017895
Abstract: A tracking device for automatically following a moving light source that is detectable in the presence of ambient light. A carrier platform including one or more radiant energy conversion devices and a sensor array is mounted to an upright support column with a universal joint. Three independently-operated, linear actuators are equally angularly spaced about the support column with an upper end connected to the carrier platform with a universal hinge and a lower end connected to a floating base with a spherical hinge. A sensor array carried by the carrier platform includes a primary sensor associated with each actuator. During operation, when a primary sensor is not receiving direct radiant energy, the actuator retracts, and when it is receiving radiant energy directly, the actuator extends. The result is that the platform will directly track the sun across the horizon.
