  • Patent number: 5629388
Abstract: A process for producing a polydiorganosiloxane based graft copolymer is provided. The process involves producing an emulsion of crosslinked polydiorganosiloxane by admixing dihydroxyfunctional polydiorganosiloxane, an emulsifying agent, and water; polymerizing the polydiorganosiloxane in the presence of an acid catalyst, a cross linking agent and a grafting agent to form silicone rubber particles having functional sites, and graft polymerizing a vinyl functional monomer onto the resulting silicone particles. The process provides several advantages in a rubber particle size control thereby resulting in better control of the properties of the resulting graft copolymer.

  • Patent number: 5492966
Abstract: Impact modified resin compositions are provided containing bi-lobed graft copolymers. The lobed graft copolymers contain a rigid lobe and a rubbery lobe. The rubber lobes exhibit an affinity for each other and tend to agglomerate during compounding resulting in large rubber particle sizes which provide the compositions with reduced gloss. The resin compositions are useful as molding resins.

  • Patent number: 5470895
Abstract: A process that is provided for agglomerating rubber particles of a rubbery latex. The process involves producing an agglomerating agent which is in the form of latex having particles which comprise high molecular weight polyoxyethylene bound therein. The agglomerating agent is affixed with an elastomeric latex to form agglomerated elastomeric particles. The process results in the formation of uniform size agglomerating particles, and utilizes a non-surfactant form of polyoxyethylene, which can be utilized in small amounts to yield the desired agglomerated elastomeric latex. The agglomerated particles may then be utilized as the substrate for graft copolymers, such as acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene graft copolymers.

  • Patent number: 5294659
Abstract: A method for emulsion polymerization of butadiene comprises adding an acrylic latex to the emulsion polymerization medium in an amount effective to increase the average particle size of the resulting polybutadiene latex. The particles of the resulting polybutadiene latex may also exhibit a desirable spherical shape.

  • Patent number: 5223573
Abstract: Polymer blends are provided which exhibit reduced surface gloss while maintaining impact and flow properties. The blends comprise an aromatic polycarbonate resin, an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene graft copolymer and an ionomeric resin. The blends are useful as molding resins for making molded plastic parts exhibiting reduced surface gloss.
