  • Patent number: 6834060
Abstract: A distributed local services telecommunications switching system (10, 50) is comprised of loosely coupled components, including a digital loop carrier (14, 56), an intelligent peripheral (12, 54), and a general purpose computing platform (12, 52). The digital loop carrier (14, 56) provides subscriber line interfaces (120, 150), network trunk interfaces (122, 152), and a cross-connect matrix (124, 154). The intelligent peripheral (12, 54) is coupled to the digital loop carrier (14, 56) for performing call processing functions. The general purpose computing platform (12, 52) is coupled to the digital loop carrier (14, 56) and intelligent peripheral (12, 54) for controlling and managing call processing operations thereof. The general purpose computing platform (12, 52) may be integrated or co-located with the intelligent peripheral (12, 54).

  • Patent number: 6327258
Abstract: A telecommunications network (10) includes a public switched telephone network (12) and an Internet data network (14). The Internet data network (14) includes an Internet routing element (24) and a line access switch (26). The Internet routing element (24) is coupled to end office switches (16) and local switches (18) of the public switched telephone network (12) by modem trunks (30). The modem trunks (30) provide the Internet routing element (24) with Internet calls re-routed from the public switched telephone network (12) to prevent the Internet calls from congesting trunks (22) of the public switched telephone network (12). The Internet calls are received at an ATM multiplexer (58) within the Internet routing element (24). The ATM multiplexer (58) includes a pool of modems (60) that converts the analog signal on the modem trunks (30) into digital data.

  • Patent number: 6324173
Abstract: An Internet call routing system (200, 250, 300) includes a master controller (220, 264, 314) coupled to a signaling control network, and a call routing element (205, 260, 280, 310) coupled to the master controller and a voice switched network (206, 256, 306). The call routing element receives calls destined for an information service provider (216, 272, 322) from the voice switched network as directed by the master controller. At least one modem bank (208, 262, 284, 312) is coupled to the call routing element and master controller for converting the calls destined for the information service provider from a first format to a second format and then providing the converted calls to a packet data network. Additionally, the modem interface to the packet data network includes a controller (62) coupled to a master controller (220, 264, 314) for receiving control information therefrom.

  • Patent number: 6154467
Abstract: A high speed SS7 signaling adaptation device (200) includes a platform manager (120) having a high speed control interface and operable to configure and monitor the operations of the adaptation device. An SS7 user parts process (122) is in communications with the platform manager (120) and operable to support one or more SS7 user parts protocol, and a message transfer part layer 3 process (124) is in communications with the platform manager (120) and operable to perform message routing, message distribution and message discrimination functions. A data link and physical layer process (126) is further in communications with the platform manager (120) and operable to provide broadband and narrowband SS7 signaling message transport. A plurality of high speed SS7 signaling adaptation devices are distributed in an intelligent telecommunications network.
