  • Patent number: 7283815
Abstract: A method for soft-combining MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service) data in an asynchronous mobile communication system including a user equipment (UE) and a radio network controller (RNC), wherein the system provides an MBMS service. In the method, the RNC measures a round trip delay (RTD) for a primary cell in which the UE is located, and an RTD for each of the neighbor cells neighboring the primary cell. The RNC transmits the MBMS data at the same transmission time by considering the RTDs for the primary cell and the neighbor cells so that the UE can receive requested MBMS data. The UE receives MBMS data transmitted from the respective cells at the same transmission time, and performs soft combining on the received MBMS data.

  • Patent number: 7218946
Abstract: An outer loop power control apparatus and method in a mobile communication system are disclosed. If a first received frame has no errors and the raw BER of the first received frame is equal to or greater than a predetermined raw BER, a power control mode is changed to an adjustment mode. If a second received frame following the first received frame has no errors and the raw BER of the second received frame is less than the threshold raw BER in the adjustment mode, a target Eb/No is decreased by a product of a first step coefficient and a decrement unit. If the raw BER of the second received frame is equal to or greater than the threshold raw BER, the raw BERs of the first and second received frames are compared. If the raw BER of the second received frame is less than the raw BER of the first received frame, the target Eb/No is decreased by a product of a second step coefficient and the decrement unit.

  • Publication number: 20060073829
Abstract: A mobile communication terminal and a control method thereof are provided, where a plurality of antennas receives signals from systems having different frequency bands and a plurality of system modems communicates with the systems having the different frequency bands, respectively. A switching unit positioned between the plurality of antennas and the plurality of system modems selectively connects the plurality of antennas with the plurality of system modems. In a handover between the systems having the different frequency bands, a controller controls the switching unit to connect the system modem of a handed-over system to a predetermined one of the plurality of antennas.

  • Publication number: 20050221824
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for controlling activation/deactivation of two kinds of operation modes of an MMMB mobile terminal during handover between different types of systems. To control the activation/deactivation, a system controller instructs the mobile terminal to activate/deactivate the operation modes or provides activation/deactivation conditions to the mobile terminal. In particular, when the mobile terminal in communication is situated in a border cell neighboring a target system, the mobile terminal activates target system-related modules and then performs handover into the target system according to predetermined conditions after the passage of a predetermined time period. Such a handover method minimizes time required for performing handover, prevents deterioration of call quality during the handover, and saves power consumption of the mobile terminal.

  • Publication number: 20050153695
Abstract: A mobile terminal identifies a cell boundary of a mobile communication network supporting an asynchronous scheme for handover between different communication systems. For this, a boundary indication base station newly defines boundary indication codewords distinguished from existing codewords used for acquisition of frame synchronization, and transmits one of the boundary indication codewords over a secondary synchronization channel every frame. Upon receiving the boundary indication codeword over the secondary synchronization channel, the mobile terminal recognizes that it is located in a boundary of the mobile communication network supporting the asynchronous scheme, and performs handover to a mobile communication network supporting a synchronization scheme.

  • Publication number: 20040227618
Abstract: A method of paging UEs(User Equipments) on a multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS) service basis in a mobile communication system supporting MBMS. To receive a PCH (Paging Channel) using a plurality of PICHs (Paging Indicator Channels) in a mobile communication system having a plurality of PCHs transmitted in every predetermined periods, for paging UEs requesting a broadcasting service, and the plurality of PICHs transmitted between first and second successive PCHs among the plurality of PCHs. A UE receives a PICH assigned to the UE if the PICH is among the plurality of PIs, determines whether the second PCH corresponding to the broadcasting service will be transmitted by a broadcasting service PI set in an unused part of the received PICH, and receives the second PCH destined commonly for all UEs that determine that the second PCH will be transmitted to the UEs among UEs that receive the PICH.

  • Publication number: 20040203450
Abstract: A call admission apparatus and method for guaranteeing a Quality of Service (QoS) in a mobile communication system are disclosed. Upon sensing a call admission request for a new call, a minimum transmit power required to maintain the QoS of each call in service is detected. Only if the sum of the minimum transmit powers of calls in service is less than an optimum transmit power is the call admitted. Therefore, efficient use of transmit power resources is increased.

  • Publication number: 20040085926
Abstract: A system and method for providing a packet service to a user equipment (UE) when the UE moves to a second cell managed by a second radio network controller (RNC), the UE requesting a permission to receive the packet service in a first cell managed by the first RNC, in a mobile communication system providing the packet service. In the system and method, the first RNC transmits control information necessary for providing the packet service to the UE, to the second RNC. The second RNC analyzes the control information and notifies the first RNC that the second RNC is providing the packet service, when the second RNC can provide the packet service. The second RNC transmits packet service data to the UE.
