    Abstract: A resin composition having nice color tone and high crack-resistance as well as flame-retardancy is obtained by blending(A) 100 weight parts of a resin composition containing a rubber-reinforced vinyl aromatic polymer and polyphenylene ether represented by the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein each of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represents a monovalent residue such as the same or different alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, aryl group, halogen and hydrogen, and n represents the polymerization degree or a polyphenylene ether onto which a vinyl aromatic compound is graft-copolymerized, in which the polyphenylene ether content is 5-70 wt. % (based on the weight of the resin part),(B) 1-30 weight parts of a halogenated aromatic compound and(C) 0.5-20 weight parts of a non-crystalline ethylene-propylene copolymer.

    Abstract: In injection molding thermoplastic resin compositions containing reinforcing materials and/or fillers, high quality molded articles superior in surface gloss and exhibiting substantially no surface defect can be obtained, by employing a technical measure, in which only superficial layer of the inner wall surface of the mold is selectively heated, by high-frequency induction heating, to a temperature above the heat distortion temperature of the thermoplastic resin composition employed prior to injection molding and cooling and solidifying the resin.

    Abstract: A thermoplastic polymeric material which is superior in mechanical strength comprises (1) 10 to 65% by weight of a hard copolymer containing as a comonomer an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride and (2) 90 to 35% by weight of a polyamide, which are chemically bonded to each other. The thermoplastic polymeric material has a fine dispersion microstructure. The material may be reinforced by incorporating glass or carbon fibers therein.

    Abstract: Paper coating compositions having an improved combination of properties are prepared by admixing, in the normal proportions and by conventional techniques, one or more conventional paper coating pigments with a particular type of synthetic polymer latex. In such compositions, the particular latex employed is alkali-sensitive and is prepared by emulsion polymerizing (A) from about 10 to about 90 parts by weight of a monomer mixture comprising, based upon the weight of such monomer mixture, (1) from about 10 to about 60 weight percent of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and (2) from about 40 to about 90 weight percent of a copolymerizable monoolefin compound in the presence of (B) from about 10 to about 90 parts by weight, on a polymer solids basis, of a copolymer latex comprising a monovinylidene aromatic monomer such as styrene and an open-chain aliphatic conjugated diene such as butadiene.

    Abstract: Improved copolymer latexes and flame-retardant or self-extinguishing adhesive compositions comprising such latexes are provided wherein the copolymer particles of the latexes are beneficially composed of from about 5 to about 60 weight percent of an aliphatic conjugated diolefin; from about 5 to about 55 weight percent of an aromatic vinyl monomer, an acrylate ester or a methacrylate ester; from about 0.5 to about 10 weight percent of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid; and from about 25 to about 70 weight percent of vinylidene chloride and wherein the copolymer latexes are obtained by first emulsion copolymerizing a first monomer mixture which includes substantially all of the vinylidene chloride, and then emulsion copolymerizing, in the presence of the first copolymerization product, a second monomer mixture which includes substantially all of the aliphatic conjugated diolefin and substantially all of any aromatic vinyl monomer to be employed.

    Abstract: A molding material structure of a thermoplastic resin composition comprising (1) at least one pillar-shaped body made of a bundle of glass fiber filaments and a non-oriented thermoplastic resin and (2) an outer covering layer of an oriented thermoplastic resin compatible with the resin in said inner body is found to produce molded articles in which glass fiber filaments are dispersed uniformly in the resin matrix with longer average length to improve various properties of molded articles, especially impact strength.
