  • Publication number: 20050224146
Abstract: A molten Mg or Mg alloy is supplied into a mold, which is sheltered from the surroundings, from a pool in a tundish, which is shielded from the surroundings. An Mg slab or Mg alloy slab in the mold is drawn out to the outside from an outlet of the mold. A cooling medium is jetted onto the slab on an outer side of and in a vicinity of the outlet to cool the slab. A sealing gas is sprayed over an entire width of a free surface of the molten Mg or Mg alloy on an inner side of and in the vicinity of the outlet, to seal a portion above the entire width of the free surface of the molten Mg or Mg alloy, whereby preventing oxygen from flowing into the mold from the portion and preventing the cooling medium from running back to the mold side.

  • Publication number: 20020134471
Abstract: An apparatus for the production of a platelike metal material includes a cooling unit for cooling a molten metal to form a metal slurry containing a solid phase, a pair of coarse rollers for cooling the metal slurry and, at the same time, rolling it to thereby give rise to a continuous, solidified, platelike metal material, and a cutting mechanism for cutting the continuous, solidified, platelike metal material into platelike metal materials of a stated length. Thus, platelike metal materials containing numerous uniform spherical crystals are obtained.

  • Publication number: 20010020526
Abstract: A casting method includes the steps of cooling a molten metal to form a metal slurry containing a solid phase, cooling the metal slurry to form a solid metal material and heating the metal material to a semi-melted metal material and supplying it into a mold. A casting apparatus includes a first device for cooling a molten metal to form a metal slurry containing a solid phase and a second device for cooling the metal slurry to form a solid metal material. The metal material is then heated to a semi-melted state and the resultant metal material is poured into a mold. A method for manufacturing a metal material being heated to a semi-melted state and then supplied into a mold, includes the steps of cooling a molten metal to form a metal slurry containing a solid phase and cooling the metal slurry to form a solid metal material.
