  • Patent number: 8823331
Abstract: A permanent magnet generator having the unique feature of a speed proportionally adjusted air gap for self-regulation of coil output voltage over a wide range of operating rotational speed of a steam turbine to which the invention is coupled. The Permanent Magnet Generator rotor is supported by the turbine end shaft and the stator is supported by a bracket bolted to the turbine pedestal base or other rigid structure. The speed proportional air gap is accomplished through the use of a plurality of centrifugal flyweights in mechanical coupling to a spool piece under spring load and to corresponding rare earth magnets via linkage such that increasing rotor speed extends the flyweights outward from the rotor center of rotation and draws the rare earth magnets closer to the rotor center of rotation and thus increases the air gap.

  • Patent number: 8431957
Abstract: A method for controlling consumer exposure to audio dosage for a composite audio signal, the method comprising: sampling the composite audio signal; transforming the sampled audio signal, using a fast fourier transform algorithm, to produce a signal representative of the amplitude of component frequencies of the audio signal; comparing the transformed audio signal with a predefined impulse control threshold profile, representing the target maximum amplitude for each frequency component for the audio signal threshold profile to produce a configuring signal representative of the difference between the broadcast signal and the profile; using the configuring signal to automatically configure in real time a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter so that it attenuates the amplitude of the transformed audio signal in frequency bands centered on the frequencies at which the target threshold is exceeded; and outputting the attenuated audio signal for consumer exposure.

  • Publication number: 20070075285
Abstract: The invention consists of turbine steam valve actuation apparatus providing both precise modulation of valve position control and independent fail-safe emergency valve closure regardless of modulated position. The invention consists of a tandem arrangement of an electric valve actuator (utilizing a roller or ball screw drive mechanism) operated by a conventional servo position controller under resolver feedback with a hydraulic cylinder of equal or greater stroke supplied by a conventional synthetic fluid delivery system. The electric actuator and the hydraulic cylinder are reversible in installed positions and applicable to both direct steam valve stem coupling and operation of fulcrumed lever valve racks.

  • Patent number: 5646354
Abstract: A flowmeter is based on the principle of injecting a pulse of microwave radiation into a flowing stream of material containing a substance having an absorption band for the radiation so as to heat a small quantity of the substance and continue its flow in a conduit to a downstream temperature sensor where the temperature of the quantity is sensed for enabling determination of the time elapsed for the quantity to travel from the point at which the microwave energy is injected to the sensor. A microcontroller receiving signals from the sensor determines when the peak temperature of the quantity is sensed and uses the peak to terminate measurement of a time interval. The time interval starts when the microcontroller senses that the ac sinusoidal power has passed through zero at which time the microwave generator, such as a magnetron, emits a pulse of microwave radiation for heating the quantity of the substance of the material flowing in the conduit.

  • Patent number: 5046101
Abstract: Microphones sample the sound output from the speakers of a sound amplification system. The resulting time domain analog signals undergo a Fast Fourier Transform which yields frequency domain signals representative of the intensities of the frequency bands which compose the sound. The intensities or levels of each band are compared to stored permissible level limits for each frequency band. Attenuators respond to signals indicative of band levels being exceeded by respectively attenuating the frequency bands to which they are tuned so the speaker output does not contain frequencies which exceed permissible limits. The time weighted permissible averages for each frequency are also integrated to provide for production of signals representative of the cumulative sound dosage.
