Abstract: An apparatus for channelling cooking fumes arising from cooking taking place on a stovetop in a designated area, the apparatus comprising a suction duct having at least one inlet configured for intake of air containing the cooking fumes, the suction duct configured to channel the air containing the cooking fumes away from the designated area; and a supply duct having at least one outlet configured for outflow of air over at least a portion of the stovetop such that the cooking fumes are at least partially directed by the air towards the at least one inlet of the suction duct; the apparatus being hoodless.

Abstract: Apparatus for supplying a fluid comprising a pipe having at least one aperture through a wall of the pipe, each of the at least one apertures comprising a first portion in an inner surface of the wall, a second portion in an outer surface of the wall, the first portion intersecting the second portion to form an opening, the first portion having a first cross-sectional area at the inner surface that is greater than a second cross-sectional area of the opening; wherein the first cross-sectional area and the second cross-sectional area have a first ratio within a first predetermined range so as to enable fluid flowing through the pipe at a predetermined flow rate to exert a predetermined pressure to spray fluid from the at least one aperture to atmosphere and also to flush the first portion.

Abstract: A ventilation or exhaust system, having ducting, and a fan assembly for placement in ducting of a ventilation or exhaust system for an environment space. The fan assembly has a motor having an output shaft, a fan mounted on the output shaft, and a brake mounted for operation on the motor. The brake is operable for stopping rotation of the motor upon a detection of a prescribed situation one or more of: the environmental space, and the ducting. Also included is a valve assembly having a valve member for placement in the ducting for movement between a first position where the ducting is substantially open, and a second position where the ducting is substantially closed. The valve member is adapted to move from the first position to the second position in response to at least one detection of a prescribed situation.

Abstract: A self-cleaning exhaust system including a top, a front wall, a rear wall, and side walls extending between the rear wall and the front wall. A baffle depending from the top intermediate the front wall and the rear wall. A plate extending forwardly from the rear wall to forwardly of the baffle. A first filter is located in an air flow path. A first spray outlet is located in the air flow path before the first filter for providing a first cleaning spray into the air flow so that the air flow draws the cleaning spray onto a first surface of the first filter. A method of removing contaminants is also disclosed.
