Patent number: 5665522Abstract: Positive-acting no-process printing plates are disclosed in which a stable visual or print-out image is obtained upon exposure of the plate to actinic radiation. The visual image is obtained by incorporation into the photosensitive layer, a dye which is irreversibly bleached upon exposure of the printing plate. For example, an acid which is generated upon exposure of a photopolymer to radiation may be used to bleach a dye of this invention. The visual or print-out images produced are useful in the production cycle and are stable to basic environments that may be encountered in the production setting.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1995Date of Patent: September 9, 1997Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Dennis E. Vogel, Robert J. Balchunis, James P. Gardner, George V.D. Tiers, Kim M. Vogel

Patent number: 5663042Abstract: A thermographic element comprising in a non-aqueous binder medium a silver salt oxidizing agent in reactive association with a compound comprising a plurality of redox color releasing moieties such that oxidation of each redox color releasing moiety causes release from said compound of a thermally diffusible dye.The compounds many of which are new incorporate two or more developer moieties into a single molecule to minimize the diffusibility of the compound. Following oxidation, either directly by the silver salt or by means of a cross-oxidizing agent, each oxidized developer moiety releases a thermally diffusible dye. The compounds are of sufficient size and molecular weight to slow or prevent diffusion in imaging systems and yet possess several active developer moieties per molecule which is advantageous over known ballasted dye releasers which comprise bulky molecules with only a single developer moiety.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1995Date of Patent: September 2, 1997Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Duncan McL. Patent number: 5596025Abstract: The present invention provides novel dental impression materials, the cure of which can be monitored visually, comprising: (1) a curable silicone polymer; (2) a crosslinker compound containing silicon-bonded-hydrogen groups; (3) a hydrosilation catalyst; and (4) one or more cure-indicating dyes that exhibit a color change in the presence of a silicon-bonded-hydrogen compound and a hydrosilation catalyst. The cure-indicating dye provides the composition with an initial pre-cure color and a different post-cure color. As a result of this change in color, the state of cure of the impression material can be visually monitored.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1995Date of Patent: January 21, 1997Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Joel D. Patent number: 5583255Abstract: Photothermographic elements capable of producing a high density yellow or magenta image upon image-wise exposure and thermal development at a relatively low temperature and for a short period of time are described. The photothermographic elements of the invention comprise coated on a support base at least one light-sensitive emulsion layer comprising (a) a leuco dye reducing reducing agent, (b) a photosensitive silver halide, (c) an organic silver compound capable of being reduced by the leuco dye reducing agent, and (d) a binder; wherein the leuco dye reducing agent thereto comprises a chromogenic yellow or magenta leuco dye compound. The photothermographic elements of the invention may be used to obtain yellow and magenta images of suitable density in single color or multicolor photothermographic articles. At the same time the chromogenic leuco dye is stable enough not to be oxidized by oxygen of the air or by simple heating and to limit the fog formation after development.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1995Date of Patent: December 10, 1996Assignee: Imation Corp.Inventors: Raffaella Biavasco, Stefano Parodi, Sharon M.
