Abstract: An image-taking apparatus permits annotation information to be added to a region within an image not only with an image that has already been recorded but also with an image that is going to be captured, and thus with higher efficiency. In one screen, either an image that is going to be captured or an image recorded on a recording medium is specified as a parent image to which to add annotation information. When the former is specified, a parent image is newly captured; when the latter is specified, in another screen, which of already recorded images to select is specified, and the specified image is used as a parent image. Within the parent image, a region to which to add annotation information is specified, and then, as the annotation information, an image is captured or a sound is recorded.

Abstract: An image processing device includes a first discriminator for discriminating halftone regions of an input image; and a device for smoothing only the discriminated halftone regions. An image processing device also includes a discriminator for discriminating the characteristics of a region for image compression of an image included in a corrected image; and a first device for modifying a degree of discrimination of a local area included in the region for image compression in accordance with the discriminated characteristics; and a second device for modifying a method of compression of the region for image compression in accordance with the discriminated characteristics.

Abstract: A camera is provided with a varifocal lens including a zoom lens system driven by a motor and by a zoom lens drive control section and a focusing lens system driven by a motor and by a focusing lens drive control section for performing focusing before the zoom lens system is driven or while the zoom lens system is being driven. The camera is also provided with a lens switch sensor for determining whether an operation member for starting an exposure operation has been operated and a body control section and a lens control section for halting the driving of the zoom lens system when it is determined that the operation member has been operated by the sensor to re-start the driving of the focusing lens system.

Abstract: A document processing apparatus that utilizes a plurality of resources, such as CRT displays and printers, are provided. A control system can determine if a resource has a fault and can select an alternative resource if it is capable of providing a functional output to the user. The control system can further determine if a resource is faulty but will not interfere with the data processing and can accordingly continue the operation of the document processing apparatus.
