  • Patent number: 6870587
Abstract: A first substrate, a second substrate opposing to the first substrate, and liquid crystal provided in a space between the first substrate and second substrate are provided to an IPS mode liquid crystal display. A plurality of gate lines and a plurality of drain lines, thin film transistors, pixel electrodes, and common electrodes are formed on a transparent substrate in a first substrate. Each of the thin film transistors is provided in a vicinity of the intersection of the gate line and drain line. Each of the pixel electrodes is formed within a pixel region enclosed with an adjacent pair of the gate lines and an adjacent pair of the drain lines. Each of the common electrodes develops an electric field within each of the pixel regions between the pixel electrode and itself. The second substrate includes color layers provided for each of the pixel regions. The color layers are spaced apart from the gate lines and drain lines when seen on a plane.

  • Patent number: 6862067
Abstract: An active-matrix addressing LCD device using lateral electric field realizes a higher transmittance and a higher fabrication yield and improves the aperture ratio without raising the fabrication cost. A first one of the common electrode lines, a first one of the pixel potential layers, and an intervening dielectric layer constitute a first storage capacitor for each of the pixels and at the same time, a second one of the common electrode lines, a second one of the pixel potential layers, and the intervening dielectric layer constitute a second storage capacitor for the same pixel. The first and second pixel potential layers are electrically connected to each other by way of a corresponding transparent pixel electrode. Therefore, the rotation of the liquid crystal molecules caused by applied electric field makes full contribution to the panel transmittance, preventing the obtainable total panel transmittance from lowering. This means that a higher transmittance is obtainable.

  • Publication number: 20030184699
Abstract: An in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display device includes a substrate, a scanning line formed on the substrate, a data line formed above the substrate to cross the scanning line while interposing an insulation film between the data line and the scanning line, and a transparent common electrode interconnect line located farther the substrate than the scanning line and the data line and having a width longer than those of the scanning line and the data line, and further, formed to geometrically cover the scanning line and the data line. The construction of the device makes it possible to make all electric fields from the data line and the scanning line terminate on the common electrode interconnect line. • Patent number: 6504523
Abstract: An active-matrix LCD device drives the LCD panel by using a dot reversible driving technique. The switching between two sets of input signals or two resolution modes is conducted by applying a DC voltage between the pixel electrode and the common electrode in each pixel before restart of the image display of a switched signal. The DC voltage has the same polarity among the pixels in the pixel array to thereby reduce the flicker after the restart of the image display.
