  • Patent number: 6408578
Abstract: A method of finishing an edge of a sheet glass is disclosed. The method includes a first grinding step for grinding an edge of a sheet glass so as to provide the edge with an outwardly convex curved shape, and a finishing step for finishing a bordering portion which has been formed by the first grinding step between the curved edge and each flat side face of the sheet glass, so as to provide this bordering portion with a greater smoothness than smoothness provided by the first grinding step. A heat-tempered sheet glass using the method and a fire-resistant construction material using this heat-tempered sheet glass are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6360499
Abstract: A sheet glass attaching construction for attaching a sheet glass to a fixed member having a concave groove capable of receiving a peripheral edge of the sheet glass. In the case of a conventional sheet glass attaching construction, the sheet glass tends to come off the fixed member in the event of e.g. a fire. However, if a pair of engaging portions (3b, 5) are provided in the fixed member (3) and the peripheral edge of the sheet glass respectively, the engaging portions coming into engagement with each other when the sheet glass (2) is fitted into the concave groove (3a), thereby to prevent the sheet glass (2) from coming off the concave groove (3a); then, it is possible to prevent the sheet glass from coming off the fixed member in the event of a fire or the like.

  • Patent number: 6054401
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fireproof sheet glass formed of glass composition which should be classified as a soda-lime glass. Thus far, there has been a demand for a fireproof sheet glass made of soda-lime glass which provides high productivity of sheet glass and which hardly reduces the life of glass melting furnace. However, there has existed none made of soda-lime glass which has high durability and hardly softens. Then, by preparing soda-lime glass in a predetermined glass composition and by using it to obtain a softening point of 780.degree. C. or higher, there has been provided a fireproof sheet glass made of soda-lime glass which provides high durability and which hardly softens.

  • Patent number: 5939175
Abstract: Diclosed is a plate glass wherein surfaces (3a) of plate glass (3) are formed flat and finished with a maximum surface ruggedness not exceeding 0.05 mm, and boundaries (3c) between end surfaces (3a) and front and back surfaces (3b) of the plate glass (3) are finished with a maximum surface ruggedness not exceeding 0.007 mm. Thus, though the plate glass is treated with heat reinforcement by the method simpler and more convenient than the prior art, the plate glass maintains performance as fire glass. It is now possible to provide quality improvement as plate glass, a reduction in running cost of heat reinforcing treatment equipment, and a reduction in working stress due to the weight of the plate glass itself in time of fitting the plate glass.

  • Patent number: 5670222
Abstract: An attachment construction for a sheet glass is disclosed. The construction includes a frame to be secured to a construction structure. A sheet glass is attached to this frame by fitting a peripheral edge of the sheet glass into the frame. A metal holder is disposed in contact with the peripheral edge of the sheet glass for holding the sheet glass. The sheet glass is attached to the frame via the holder member placed in contact with the sheet glass.
