    Abstract: A tape cassette has a case with upper and lower halves and an open space at the front thereof. A magnetic tape housed in the case is wound around a pair of reels. A brake is slidably mounted on the inner surface of the lower half of the case to prevent the reels from being rotated. Part of a spring is attached to the brake. The spring has free ends and urges the brake in a direction. A device for positioning the spring includes a partition wall on the inner surface of the lower half of the case which partitions the open case from the inside of the case. An independent abutment member on the partition wall abuts the free ends of the spring.

The guides permit insertion and removal of the disc with respect to the casing body to be safely accomplished along the guides through the opened rear end of the casing. The disc cartridge uses such a casing.

The casing includes a casing body having an upper casing member and a lower casing member joined together, and a tapping boss of high rigidity arranged therein, with a slider being slidably mounted on the lower casing member so as to cover at least a part of a bottom and sides of the lower casing member. The casing also includes a torsion spring arranged in the casing body to act on the slider, the torsion spring having a coil-like portion supported on a supporting member mounted on the lower casing member, and an end of the torsopm spring engaged with the slider. The other end of the torsion spring is securely held in an engagement portion formed at the tapping boss.

    Abstract: A disc cartridge capable of holding a disc in a casing in a state of floating in a space in the casting to keep it in noncontact with the casing when the disc cartridge is not used. The disc cartridge includes an actuator arranged in a casing receiving a disc therein to releasable lock a shutter for a window and a disc receiver arranged in the casing and operatively connected to the actuator to selectively receive therein a part of a peripheral portion of the disc. The actuator is arranged to be slidable in a longitudinal direction of the disc cartridge to cause the disc receiver to be approachably moved with respect to the disc, so that the disc receiver may be engaged with the disc to rearwardly force the disc while keeping the disc in noncontact with the casing when the shutter is actuated to close the window and disengaged from the disc when the shutter is actuated to open the window.

    Abstract: A disc cartridge capable of effectively preventing a shutter from being opened even when any unexpected shock is suddenly applied to the disc cartridge during non-use of the disc cartridge. The disc cartridge includes a connection mechanism for operatively connecting to disc receivers, actuators for releasably locking the shutter. The connection mechanism is constituted by a guide groove provided in the actuator and formed into a substantially sideways U-shape, and a guide pin provided on the disc receiver and movably fitter within the guide groove. The guide pin is spaced from two surfaces of the guide groove opposite to the guide pin, in the actuating direction of the actuator. Also, the disc cartridge includes a substantially V-shaped spring for constantly positioning the guide pin within the guide groove and forcing the disc receiver to return to its original position to keep the guide pin apart from the opposite surfaces of the guide groove.
