  • Patent number: 4416674
Abstract: Filter for treating a gas such as the exhaust gas stream from a diesel engine, which exhaust gas often conveys carbon particles into the atmosphere. The treating filter comprises a casing holding a plurality of serially arranged filter beds. The latter are comprised of monolith ceramic discs, and are maintained in spaced apart relationship by spacer rings to define a turbulation chamber between adjacent beds. Said beds are provided with an oxidation catalyst to promote incineration of the retained particles. The beds further serve to reinforce and support a non-rigid filtering media contained within the respective chambers.

  • Patent number: 4360957
Abstract: Method for fabricating a filter or catalytic reactor for hot exhaust gases, which includes a filter bed made from a frangible material such as steel wool or the like. The latter is confined and formed into a quasi-rigid body by application of an initial outer hardenable surface of a rigidizing material. Thereafter the preformed bed in an unconfined state, is treated to provide it with a uniform coating to a desired thickness in anticipation of being fitted into an appropriately shaped casing.

  • Patent number: 4289810
Abstract: Method for the in-situ deposition of a coating onto internal surfaces and matrix substrates of a body which defines one or more cavities. The single cavity, or the respective cavities packed with suitable substrates are provided with a predetermined amount of a solid reacting component to produce a suitable coating. The cavity is furnished with a liquid component which contacts the solid component, thereby forming a desired liquid coating reaction mixture. The latter is brought into contact with the cavity walls as well as with materials contained within the cavity, to achieve the desired coating of walls and matrix material.
